Note
(injured)

Day 1 of recovery.

Pain isn't too bad, but there is a lot of swelling. I am on crutches for the next three weeks, about 50% weight bearing on the repaired hip. The report was that they shaved off the CAM lesion on my femur, abraded the cartilage (which was thin, too thin to be microfractured with any reasonable chance of regrowth given age factors) and repair of the labrum. Not sure what repair was done - they may have just cut off the pieces as apparently is was more of a groove due to abrasion from the CAM lesion rather than a flap.

No exercises, so to speak, just keep it moving. I'm thinking I might use the rehab stuff from the surgeon that my brother had do the same operation so that I have something to focus on, other than icing and painkillers.....

Warm up and down at race (not much warm down....)

Canoeing race (c1 flatwater) 1:20:00 [4] 8.1 mi (9:53 / mi)
(injured)

Stone Dam race. Windy out, and a lot colder than it has been. Hips were both hurting - perhaps from the weather change?

Went out reasonably quickly and realized I had Bill Terbush riding my side wake. Shortly after, Paul Dyka jumped on my stern, where he would stay for all but the last 1/4 mile of the race. Pretty much pulled the others up to the top, got away at the island turn by cutting inside a tree, but they were back soon afterwards. Pulled a lot of the way back down again, then split off from Bill to try and hide from the wind. Didn't realise the turn buoy had changed, so then had to do a big S turn to get to the correct buoy, and back with Bill again. He towed me up to the top of the second loop, but then got away, and of course Paul, who was well rested, sprinted past me and I couldn't stay with him. Oh well. Not terrible, given the relative lack of training I have done this year. Just needed the race to be about a mile shorter!
