Note

ICO Bear Creek, OLOU Billy Goat - Tom Wallace Lake Park, Jingle Bell Run 5k, or John Bryan 20k. Lots of options, but unfortunately can't do any of them. I may go to Bear Creek and help out. Perhaps walk the orange course or something.

Orienteering race (C-Meet) 46:38 [2] *** 4.22 km (11:03 / km) +151m 9:22 / km
ahr:157 max:181 spiked:10/11c shoes: Inov-8 Mudclaw O'330

ICO/TROL Event - Bear Creek Scout Reservation, Connersville, Indiana.
Green Course: 3.67km, 11c. (1:5000, 20ft)
Mid 20s, light snow

Carpooled with Tim who has a 4-wd, otherwise it would've been more adventurous getting to the meet. Originally plan was to walk the Orange course, but since Green was short enough, I went for it. I did some very light jogging here and there, but mostly just walked. Wore the inov-8 mudclaw for the first time, and the traction in snow and ice was excellent. I still slipped a couple times on the steeper descents but never fell. Didn't have the best route to #3, and subsequently lost a few minutes missing right. Also lost ~30s to #11, but the rest was good. The stream crossings were nice and chilly!

Orienteering race (C-Meet) 39:48 [2] *** 3.88 km (10:15 / km) +123m 8:51 / km
ahr:159 max:185 spiked:7/9c shoes: Inov-8 Mudclaw O'330

ICO/TROL Event - Bear Creek Scout Reservation, Connersville, Indiana.
Orange Course: 2.66km, 9c. (1:5000, 20ft)
Mid 20s, light snow

Since Tim wasn't back yet, I decided to do the Orange course as well (no sharing controls with Green), without a compass. I picked a bad route to #1, coupled with a questionable control placement, lost a couple minutes right out of the gate. Then at #6, I misread the terrain and overshot to the powerline north. As my knee was feeling pretty good, I might have pushed the pace a little more. It started getting sore near the end though, probably from a combination of running and extended time spent.

Overall, it was a nice outing. I got to do some orienteering, even if it was at a slow pace. Plus, it's always nice to be out playing in the snow!

(rest day)

Got an MRI today, but will have to wait till next Tues to meet with Dr. Bell and find out the results. Fingers crossed until then.

Strength (Free Weights) 12:00 [2]

Ankles and core.

Spinning 1:00:00 [3]
shoes: Forte CR310

Brought the HR transmitter but forgot the watch. Felt the knee once or twice, but I don't think it's anything to be alarmed, yet.

Stretching warm up/down 15:00 [0]

Spinning 50:00 [3]
ahr:163 max:186 shoes: Forte CR310

The jumps were fine. It's the hills that I don't have the leg muscles to sustain... maybe it'll get easier, I hope.

Strength (Calisthenics) 10:00 [2]

Mammoth core. Trying to get back into the swing of things.

Stretching warm up/down 10:00 [0]

Note

Had some x-rays done at the Doc today, but the findings were inconclusive. The pain seems to originate on the medial part of the tibia at the knee. Minor swelling. Doesn't seem to be ITB, patellar, or ligament related. The fear is stress fracture. Have an MRI scheduled for Friday, and a revisit with the Doc next week. Fingers crossed for some good news. In the mean time, non weight-bearing exercises is it!

Running (Mixed Road/Grass) 46:05 [2] 5.64 mi (8:10 / mi) +126m 7:38 / mi
ahr:158 max:176 shoes: Nike Air Pegasus+ 2007

32F, clear, occasional wind - Solo run from the Spot, over to Eden Park and back. With a doctor's appt tomorrow, I tried to push it a bit, to the point where the L-knee would hurt. It took about 4.5mi for the pain/discomfort to surface, which was an improvement over last week, but the pain seems more pronounce this time. Anyway, at least I'll have something to show the Doc tomorrow...

p.s. I feel sooo out of shape already, sigh!

Note
(rest day)

Ok, a month of relative "slugness" hasn't been fun. That and the continued cold & gray weather have me feeling a bit depressed. I think I'll start training again. But it looks like I'll be limited to x-training for now, as the L-knee is still bothersome on runs. :(
