Orienteering race (Aust Long Champs) 1:41:33 [5]
shoes: Inov8 Roclite 285

11th.

Not a lot of expectation for this with buggar all long runs in the last two months. Pretty smooth until 6 where the mind wondered and I was off to the the left and then sloppy through 7,8,9 even though I was telling myself to get it together. Good through to 12 but I didn't drink at 7 as it was too early and by 12 I was n a bit of a low. Left on 16 and I was getting grumpy as I had been falling over so much all course.

I was ready to finish from about 18 onward and just slugged through the rest, continually falling over and generally over it. Ran the last loop with Andy and dropped about 70sec on 28 which cost a couple of places and then happy to finish.

Lack of terrain & endurance fitness really showed, I was a mess but I guess 11th isn't too bad a return for what felt like a horrible run.

Keen as mustard for the middle and relay but hills aren't a strong suit either!!

Canberra Grammar - 11th elite, 14th overall. Great run physically, navigationally not so good!

Started pretty well, took the left route to 3 which after I though may hav been fractionally slower but got a quick so maybe not. Rest of first loop was clean and I as 4th coming out of 9. 10 was the jurist blunder, I sat the control and figured it wasn't outs as I was looking for a man made feature (thinking table etc in me head) but it turns out the blood pole was mapped and it was mind. Turns out it was in the info but it still seems strange to me. So about 23-25sec lost here. Next fuck up was 14, I had it in my head I had I had to exit the spectator the way I came (not true) and then got all confused and ended up losing about 30 - 35sec. Rest of the course wasn't too bad, maybe a few secs each on 15 and 24.

Pretty disappointing result but the upside is without those two errors I was quick and up in top 6 or so. Gives me confidence for the future and the feedback that the training is doing something - just need to put a clean run together!
