NSW riders claim 11 ACT MTBO titles
Print Email
Last Updated: Monday, 16 October 2017 09:12
Seven NSW riders won 11 titles at the ACT MTBO Champs at the weekend.

Big Foot's Eoin Rothery (M60) won the Middle and Long titles, as did Nat Carroll (SHOO, M12), Rhiannon Prentice (Newcastle, W16) and Tim Hackney (NC, Open 3).

After mispunching on Saturday, Uringa's Ori Gudes took out the Long champs on Sunday in the M40 age class, as did Nat's dad Martyn Carroll in Open 4. In the Middle champs on Saturday, Robert Prentice (NC, M50, pictured) won riding down an age division.

NSW riders also claimed four second placings and a third, making it a successful weekend following the NSW and Australian champs the previous weekend in the Southern Highlands.

Congratulations to all the riders who attended.

MTBO Race race 2:07:15 [5] 33.58 km (15.8 kph) +1033m
shoes: GIANT XTC 29er 2016

OMG

This was one of the toughest events I have ever raced.. (over 30 km and more than 1000 mt climb) with a Miss Punch yesterday I was a bit more motivated today.... Well... a nice mile stone!

My first MTBO win since starting 6 years ago! won the M40 category by just 35 seconds...super happy! ((-; the splits suggest a very tight race all the way to the end...luckily I was faster towards the end of this slog!

Summary to follow.

Happy days..

MTBO Race 1:16:41 [4] 17.85 km (14.0 kph) +249m
shoes: Merida Scultura 5000 (2017)

My plan for the race was one thing (I put timer for 45 min) but the execution was another, made a few mistakes including mispunching and sub optimal route choices. However, my splits suggest some very good bits with good time and speed, I especially liked CP21 which I took 2nd on the split.. So, looking on the bright side... if I mange to avoid my brain fade moments I will finally make some results. Summary to follow.,,https://www.strava.com/activities/1228977503 looks like the finish split was won by Me, Ricky and Fedror

Summary middle distance event 08/10/2017

Climbing went well, navigation felt better this time..and the margin to the next few places was in reach..summary to follow

Link to the split results,

Three control points where I lost time:

CP3: there was a better route choice which could have taken, time loss of 2:57 min
CP 8: the control was located northern to the pond, with so many other objects it would have been better if I stopped earlier to look on the detail, time loss of 1:47
CP 9: 28 should have taken the single, so sub optimal route choice, time loss of 2:13

Total time loss was approx.: 6 min and 17 seconds

Time without mistakes could have been:  1 hr 18-19 min

Good things: Climbed well and efficiently

Things to improve: I can ride faster, but apparently not fast enough in the singles, better route choices especially after CP 2 and 8

My stats:

Distance: 19 km
Time: 1hr 26 min
Average speed: 14kph
Elevation: 419 mt

Winner’s stats:

https://www.strava.com/activities/1218526844

Distance 15.8km
Time: 1 hr
Climb: 484 m
Speed 15.6KPH

I think most of the splits I came last or second last, a proof that I was not fast enough in this course

Back to training after 2 days of being slack.. high cadence and speed are my focus now as well as singles.
