MTBO Race race 2:40:33 [3] 36.23 km (13.5 kph) +572m
ahr:146 max:167 shoes: GIANT XTC 29er 2016

Summary long distance event

http://obasen.orientering.se/winsplits/online/en/d...

Few control points where I lost time:

• CP1: just left the starting point to the wrong direction so took it easy to the first control, 1:54 time loss
• CP 13: Lost a bit focus and took a longer detour, 1 min 53 seconds time loss
• CP 5, probably should to the risk and climb instead of going the long way with less climbing, 3 min 3 s seconds time loss
• CP 10, took the narrow single but it was tougher than expected and slower etc., 1:52 time loss
• CP 12, did not pay attention to the junction and little singles so got lost in that segment until I found the control point, 10min time loss which is a shame!
• Overall time loss was 17min which is too much! relatively in the first day i did not loss more than 5 min in time loss..

Time without mistakes could have been: 2hr 22 min

I felt pretty strong in the first hour, and then become tired in the second, some mistakes could have been avoided like the one in CP12. In two splits I have finished 3rd, which is nice, but not enough. I think that in few occasions I did not take risk in taking short by steep tracks (explained by my less climbing in comparison to others), hence took longer route choices...

+: I felt strong and fast in the first hour
--: Navigation and time loss was greater than the day before

MTBO Race race 1:29:00 [3] 19.6 km (13.2 kph) +278m
shoes: GIANT XTC 29er 2016

Map was divided into two parts, I did the first time pretty consistent without any big issues (around 23 min). Then, we moved to the second map, and I have started to feel more of my lack of energy and sleep spreading..

Few control points where I lost time:

• CP10: just felt a bit tiered, 58 seconds time loss
• CP 13: Lost a bit focus and took a longer detour, 1 min 53 seconds time loss
• CP 18, took CP 19 before CP18 so had to go back and forth (the good thing is that I always check the control unique numbers), 2min time loss
• Finish CP, just went in into the wrong turn, 1min 22 seconds time loss
• Overall time loss is 5 min 15 second which is not bad..

Time without mistakes could have been: 1hr 24-23 min

I think the lack of energy (especially dropped after the steep climb to CP15, at the time it was good to be cheered up by Tash:-) and sleep made the difference in that day.

Interestingly, looking at CP11-12 split I was only one minute margin from Fergus at 39 min he was at 38 MIN..so could have finished in a better position than 6th.

Let's see what happens during this long MTBO season..

+ : my navigation was much better than Anglesea
- : I did not cycle fast enough, my HR was very high

MTBO Race (Sprint distance) 32:42 [2] 9.89 km (18.1 kph) +120m
ahr:166 max:180 shoes: GIANT XTC 29er 2016

Two control points where I lost time:

• CP1: Started very fast but did not look on the details good enough, hence spent too much time to find it: 3:24 min time loss.

• CP 15: overshot CP15, time loss 59 seconds

http://obasen.orientering.se/winsplits/online/en/d...

Total time loss was approx: 4:23 , time without mistakes could have been: 34 minutes (39 min without CP13)

Overall, if i look on my previous sprints (e.g., Anglesea), it is a great improvement from the past, I hardly did any big mistakes out of control 1 which could be easily avoided in the future by simply investing more time before heading off and be sure where to go. My speed average was only 18.3KPH this time, this could be explained by my overall tiredness due to lack of sleep. Obviously miss punching should not have happened! but unfortunately it did, as I was just distracted by another rider while heading off from CP12 along the open field. Did not record the all log... only from near CP3.

MTBO training or field trip 25:00 [3] 6.6 km (15.8 kph) +22m
shoes: GIANT XTC 29er 2016

Took the Harrison island map and made memorising training, every 3-4 control points I viewed the map then tried to navigate based on memory and the descriptions, that concludes 1 week of intensive MTBO training https://www.strava.com/activities/544971699 off to Victoria...

Commute to work or back 5:00 [3] 1.6 km (19.2 kph)
shoes: GIANT XTC 29er 2016

https://www.strava.com/activities/544956560 took the bike from Fai (serviced) to the training session

Actually, the category is misleading, because I am in leave and I can't remember when I was at work last time, as far as I concern, I am pretty much happy to retire now!

Urban cycling with MTB bike 29:00 [3] 12.2 km (25.2 kph) +32m

MTBO training or field trip 1:23:57 [3] 19.12 km (13.7 kph) +327m
ahr:136 max:166 shoes: GIANT XTC 29er 2016

Headed again to Rolystone, in this session I wanted to to focus on map viewing, concentration, and clean navigation rather then just speed. Cleared the course as expected, with more and less clear course, few minimal hesitations near CP15. https://www.strava.com/activities/543961890 Bike will go to service tomorrow morning before heading to Victoria! :)) at least I will sleep !

Noticed that the wining result from last year (exactly) was 1hr 36, so pretty pleased..http://www.attackpoint.org/racesplits.jsp/race_176...

MTBO training or field trip 38:42 [2] 12.51 km (19.4 kph) +106m
ahr:134 max:175 shoes: GIANT XTC 29er 2016

Of course ! when I arrived to Star Swamp it started to rain and then ended as soon as I have completed the session.. so everything had to be a bit slower. Could have done CP 24 to CP 2 and CP 19 in a better way, but otherwise it was a good sprint training with a few good hills and mix of bush and urban riding.. https://www.strava.com/activities/542935203 I have done all the control points. Given my sleep deprivation I am happy,
