Fraknefejden Long Distance

Yikes...

Started out ok but with some small mistakes into the controls. Lost 30s on 3 and then 1.5min on 6, although I only know how I lost 20s of that into the control. I think it was my route going around to the left. Was really surprised to be caught by Junis here (-3min). Lost him to 10 where I lost another minute going into the control (recurring pattern here). Pushed hard on the long leg to 12 but then lost 5min going into the control, ridiculous! Made a parallel error not checking my compass and just couldn't line things up.

Right before the start I decided to take off my craft top since I felt I would be way too hot. But by the time I got out to the far end of the map at #12 it was raining heavily and after a fair bit of standing around I got really cold. Should maybe have called it a day at this point. Was unfocused the rest of the race trying to deal with the cold.

Some more mistakes in the end when I was getting tired and having trouble reading the rain soaked map. Hit my knee hard going into 20, so had to walk the last few controls.

A lot of positives with this race that I have to look at. Some fast legs and I felt strong physically throughout the whole course. Glad I was able to race this weekend after a bit of a scare with the calf earlier in the week. A good training race/experience for other races this fall.

Ran the open 8 course. Had a bit of trouble getting into things at the start. Lost 1min to 3 and then another minute missing a trail on the way to 6. Head wasn't really in it I guess. Pushed hard from number 8 on.

The woods were pretty green and scrappy, a shock after last weekends beautiful woods.

Calf felt ok this morning, so decided to do a short intensity session. Got through the session without feeling it. The older shoes (ds trainers) may have helped.
4x4min, 2min rest around the 8.

Had to stop at three when my calf started hurting, similar to a month ago. What a bummer...
