Map and Route:

I definitely started out too fast in this race. The first few controls were fast but by the time I got to ctrl 5 and 6, the big slog up the mountain, I was pretty toast. Physically felt horrible for the second half of the course. I don't think I was expecting how much climb it really was. Also the course was pretty much only steep ups and downs, and not really many flatter areas where I could recover much.

Aside from that I lost over 2min to 7 by not seeing the better routchoice and by taking a little venture into the waist deep powder trying to make a cut through.

I think I also lost considerable time throughout the course deliberating about which route to take, and I wasn't very smooth.

Oh well, it was a good race for my first ski-o A-meet.

Running 1:30:00 [3] 12.0 km (7:30 / km)
shoes: Mizuno Alchemy 9 (July 10)

Was late, and couldn't get my mantracker skills to work for me today. Ran down towards cassels but then realized they hadn't run down there and turned back up the Britannia hill. Ended up going back to the cars to double check the tracks but still couldn't figure it out so just ran over to the H-H loop.

Did the 1k loop 5 times with 2min rest. After the last one I saw a runner about 100m away at the intersection. I could tell it was Alex so ran hard to catch up to him. It turns out they were doing a map exercise and had pretty much run all over the place. Ran behind Alex while he finished his exercise.

Back at the cars Francis had us do a snow maze/obstacle course in the adjacent field. A lot of fun!

3 short street loops as warm down.

Ski Orienteering 40:00 [3] 6.0 km (6:40 / km)

Fantastic little ski-o set by Stefan and Adrian.

The courses required good map concentration, and the darkness made things significantly more difficult. My lamp was pretty dead and dim so I had some trouble seeing the map at times.

My hands and feet were very cold throughout so I didn't stick around too long at the end.

Will post map and route soon.

Deep River Ski-O

Can be seen better on the doma. http://orienteering.ca/doma/show_map.php?user=robb...

A really nice course on a great map for ski-o. Decided to do skate, even though I knew classic would likely be faster. Probably around 60% of the course was double polling on narrow, powdery, man made tracks. Quite frustrating at times because you couldn't go fast at all, but at the same time it was really good training.
