Midnattsloppet

Well at least I got to run it...

First half was pretty fun. Really felt like I was running a sustainable pace but suddenly somehow died at around 6k. Tough slog up to Masthugget. Felt a bit better after that but then got bad cramps in the climbs in the last km. Had to walk it in to the finish.

A really nice night though. Great race atmosphere. :)

Did a 4x4min session to test out the foot. Worked ok! Right calf quite tight though. Probably from bearing more weight this past week.

1mins around the 8 on my own. Felt really good and pushed hard.

Stopped for a dip in Delsjön on the jog back. As I dove off the rock my foot slipped back on a sharp edge. Was quite a deep cut with a lot of blood. Was quite far from home so I hobbled back with the shoes on. My yellow racing flat is now half red...

I remember dad warning me one time before COCs to not run around in barefeet as a cut would ruin my week. Now I get it. A terrible place to get a cut.

Still hoping to get back running before Midnattsloppet on the 22nd.

WOC Long

So much more to reflecting on this race than just the times and placings. Two months ago I really didn't think I would make it to the start line, so to have turned things around and find myself in decent shape in a swarm of midges at the start line is something I can be proud of. What an incredible race it turned out to be. An unforgettable moment on the long leg to 13 to peak to my left and be treated to an incredible view of Beinn Fhada and Glen Affric.

I ran cleanly for much of the race, although I have to say that it wasn't all that technically difficult. It was just so insanely tough with the heather, and knowing you would fall into a hole every few steps. The course was simply too long for what I could manage to be prepared for. Really died in the last few km's and lost 6 or 7 minutes. Lost my head on the last long leg to 25, and then cramped up badly and rolled around like a soccer player for a minute to 26. Unfortunately my GPS didn't work so will have to resort to an old-fashioned analysis.

WOC Relay

Ran a pretty good individual race. Felt pretty flat running without any extra zip. Not at all offensive in my orienteering, tried to just play it safe the whole way.

According to the GPS I should have been able to see ebone and Japan near the end, but I was too oxygen deprived to notice. Don't think I would have outsprinted them anyways.

Unlucky with the shoe choice gamble when it started to rain at the start.
