Silva League 2 - Extended Middle

Was absolutely exhausted after the race on Saturday. Whole body aches, felt like I had a fever, and couldn't stomach all of my dinner. Felt the same way after the long at the Team Trials in 2011. Went to bed super early though and felt ok in the morning, but didn't expect to be so quick racing.

Focus was on a good technical race, and took it slow from the start. Despite this I lost 30s on #2, too low to see the shape properly, and got distracted by another control. Regrouped really well after that though and was very clean until the end of the race. The only thing was taking a bad route out to the trail on 13 and losing 30s.

Felt slow and tired throughout the race though, as expected. Felt exhausted towards the end. Saw the guy who started 2min ahead of me leaving 20 and I got a little excited. Proceeded to lose 40s on 21 and 22 with dumb mistakes out of exhaustion. Had to walk up the hill to the last control and jog part of the run in.

Satisfied with the race, that it was mostly clean. Too bad about the ending and how slow I felt for most of it.

Silva League 1 - Long Distance

There was potential for a really good race today, felt quite strong, but things unraveled right from the start.

After warming up on the 1:10 warm up map it was a big shock to jump into the most complex area at 1:15. Got confused on the way to 1 but recovered kinda quickly. Got to the control but it was the wrong code. Stood there scratching my head for a while and ran off a bit to try and confirm where I was. Finally had the presence of mind to unfold my loose control description and realize that I'd taken the E3 description rather than the E2. Annoyed after that and lost more time to 2. So, was sitting in last place after two controls!

Took a bad route to 4, but was pushing pretty well after that, including the long leg to 9. Another 2min lost to 12 and 13, and on 17 getting confused by the green.

Was running really well through a lot of the course, so frustrating to lose 7-8 minutes. Felt like I couldn't get into a good flow, initiated perhaps by the incident at #1. The terrain wasn't as fast I was hoping, but it was still nice and really fun.

COL Medel KM at Hisingsparken

Lost 2min early on #2. Kept pushing hard after that though, knowing that it's a tough area and that others would make mistakes too. Lost 30s on 6 and 15 but otherwise it was quite solid, and I was running really well on a lot of the legs.

Was surprised to hear that I'd won! It was really tight though, 17s ahead of Christian H. and not far to the others.

A nice little confidence boost before the weekend. A fun night, I always enjoy running in the rain. Felt I was running aggressively with the new icebugs.

SM Sprint B Final

Better Technically today. Still some hesitations though and one small mistake to 6.

Felt really tired, didn't have the legs today. Quite slow, not nearly as zippy as yesterday. Couldn't get to sleep last night and was up past 2am. Don't know why.

Looking at the splits now. Was sitting in 9th with 4 controls left, but lost 20s into the finish. Partly the running, partly a bad route to 16, and maybe 5s from running down the wrong finish chute

SM Sprint Qual

An ok race. Was quite shaky at the start and took some bad routes losing some seconds here and there. Made a 20s mistake to 5, after getting shot out of the passageway in a weird direction.

Was pretty good after that, maybe a bit of a bad route on the long leg to 10. Felt good physically, and I think I was pretty quick, only a few seconds behind on each control in the last half.

Compared to Bergman:
1/3 (#7) +47s
2/3 (#13) +29s
3/3 (F) +16s

Late night "Frogger Run" around the grus. From the stone to Svart tjärn there was at least one every 10m, no exaggeration. Ran this late to try and get accustomed for tomorrow night. I start at 12:40!!

Club sprint relay training. The loops were quite long and tough, but with some really nice route choices. A lot of waiting around in between but tried to make sure I was always moving. Felt alright, good training before the weekend.

Ran some controls on my own on the Getryggen map. Really nice in the rain with that wet forest smell. Tried out the new icebug shoes that I got from the Winter Run. Really good grip on the wet rock. A bit stiff in the uppers, but I guess that will get broken in.

COL Keps-OL in Änggårdsbergen

Team relay type race where you set a control with a hat and your partner needs to pick up the hat and move it to the next control. The guys started first and tagged off to the girls. We sat in third place for most of it, just behind the leaders. Tagged Annie off in 2nd after my last loop and she was able to come back in first! Yay!

Really fun session! Perfect temperature, and the woods were really nice.

Didn't get as much rest after the race yesterday as I wanted. Surprise, surprise, woke up with a sore throat...

Low hours this week with three rest days. Quite happy with the week though. 4 hard orienteering sessions/races, of which 3 went well, and where I felt really strong!

Was looking forward to this race on a new map of Safjället. I've run on the trails there lots, but have never orienteered.

Couldn't get to sleep after getting home from the race the night before, so got less than 5hrs of sleep before my early start. Was a zombie when I woke up, and felt really exhausted during the race. Made lots of mistakes and was way down the results list. Almost the same time behind Thierry as the night before over less than half the distance! Can't say I really enjoyed thrashing through the bushy areas and climbing up and down the same steep hillsides more than once.

In any case it was an interesting experience with races so close together, and good training I guess.

Hjortnatta Long Night

Felt pretty tired from the get go, and made lots of mistakes early on. By half way I'd lost 6 or 7 minutes and wasn't having much fun. Met CC at the end of the 2nd butterfly though, and we ran the 2nd half pretty well. Lost him on a descent down some cliffs after 22, but pushed hard to catch him back up and beat him into the finish. While most of the course was through white forest, it was all cut areas with a ton of cuttings on the ground, which made it a tough fight all the way. The result was better than expected at least.

GOF 10Mila Training

A crazy masstart with a lot of guys. It was a 100 meter climb up to the first control. Usually I start quite slow in mass starts but I decided to go hard from the start and was maybe the 10th guy at the triangle. Was running behind Höye to the first but he had a different forking so I ended up a bit left of mine. Was in a train to 2, and drifted a bit towards another forking with another guy, but recovered with only maybe 30s lost. Was quite good after that, felt strong and pushed hard. Found myself in a big pack towards the end and wanted to try and a beat them into the finish. Spiked the last control but then fell right after so got passed by them all. Didn't really suit me anyway with the treacherous descent to the finish.

Quite happy, don't think I could have done too much better. Not really my best terrain type and happy at how I pushed through it.

Ran them against Mr. Pettersson. Was really fun, and we were really close on all of them. Felt pretty good physically.

Only some really small mistakes, and a few bad routes.
