Orienteering 40:00 [1]
shoes: VJ Bold

Setting controls for the VinterCup.

First time course setting for a forest "event" in Sweden. I imagine they went down the long list of potential setters in the club, all unavailable, until they came to a last resort, the foreigner. This was evidently met with a good amount of concern, especially as 50 registrations turned into 130 in the last few days, of which a clear majority were elite runners.

As a mass-start relay training, I set a course that I personally would have liked to run, with lots of really fast legs, forking, and not shy on trail running. A contrast to the typically tough courses in hilly Änggårdsbergen.

Nobody in Sweden likes to admit they like sprint orienteering, or fast courses. But I think that orienteering is often tough enough as it is, and I dared to set a course which was likely "too nice". I liken it to putting on pop music in a room full of people, to which a handful groan, but where most people secretly enjoy it.

Anyways it seems like people had fun... Lots of tight finishes.
