Orienteering race (BigFoot Sprints #1) 16:05 [5] *** 3.45 km (4:40 / km) +19m 4:32 / km
spiked:5/8c shoes: Innov-8 X-Talon 212

Started off in a bit of a panic as I just made my timeslot then didn't clear and check. Could have been about 10 secs quicker to #1 and to #2 also. Exited back out of #3 in the opposite direction as a Red Belly Snake was in my way, so could have been about 30 secs quicker on a perfect run. Finished in 6th, and towards the end of a 7-man pack within 1 min.

Started towards the end of a huge train of Aidan, then Dave Meyer, Alastair, Greg Barbour, James McQ, me then Toby. Aidan and Dave were about 15 secs ahead of the pack for the entire course. For the first half I was at the tail of the pack trying to hang on. From about halfway I slowly passed each of the guys - James at #3, then Greg at #4,Toby at #8 and Alastair to the last #10 to finish in 3rd just behind Aidan and Dave. Left calf giving me problems about 5 min from finish and was very sore afterwards.

Took the first half fairly easy from dodgy calf but got better as it warmed up. Lost time stupidly going the long way around #2 to 7. Route wasn’t good at all. Others did 1km less for similar points. Finished way behind Ondrej’s 580.

Tried running earlier but left calve in particular was too sore. Hit the gym instead with a lot of stretching calves.

Been thinking what races to do this year, and every time I do this I come across races I forget about. So I've compiled a list to keep tabs. I've also included races I've already completed and best result, so if I've had a shocker would like to do again. But there are so many to choose from.
