Orienteering race (Sydney Sprint Series #4) 16:08 [5] ***
spiked:18/22c shoes: Asics Kayano 19

Good course mostly within the hospital buildings. Ran well for most of the course, except a slight hesitation at no.1 being so short then lost 30 secs on no.19. Saw someone exiting 18 so I stupidly did the same not realising there was no way through the buildings. So had to backtrack around 18 to get to 19. Most of the competition was down at Sprint Canberra so was well ahead today.

Orienteering race (Sydney Summer Series #17) 46:41 [5] *** 9.24 km (5:03 / km) +100m 4:48 / km
spiked:27/30c shoes: Asics Kayano 19

Pretty similar route to everyone else heading west through the streets and parkland to start then turnaround at Mona Vale Beach coming down the coast. Unfortunately, I tried to go straight through the light green between no.7 and 27 but it should of been mapped dark green and I lost a couple of minutes. Also lost a bit of time on the swim leg from no.22 to 21 as the current was pretty strong but suspect a lot of people lost time too. Should have finished with 11 then 1 instead of the other way round as it was tough going in the soft sand in the dune up to 1 from the beach. Got all controls in 46.41, well behind Steve R-42.21, Richard Green-42.52, Glenn Horrocks-45.02.

Sprint at Carss Bush. Pretty good run overall with just a few small time losses. Got really confused at the start triangle trying to work out how to get to no.1 (10 secs). Got to the bottom of the stairs then double backed to the control. Didn't see no.3 (15 secs) from the top of the cliffs and then had to run north to get down. The next few through 4 to 15 in the parkland were easy. So much so that you could see at least 1 control ahead. Then stuffed around at no.16 (10 secs) as I didn't see it behind a tree. I then tried to cut the corner at no.18 (20 secs) but ended up way too high. The last bit through the bush was a bit slow as it was wet and slippery. Finished about 30 secs ahead of a Swede and 1 min ahead of Ondrej for a rare Sprint win.
