Orienteering race (Sydney Summer Series #10) 1:02:20 [5] *** 10.17 km (6:08 / km) +202m 5:35 / km
spiked:27/29c shoes: Asics Kayano 19

Tough route choices today. Knew my loop would be long but not ‘how’ long. Also felt very flat which didn’t help on a hot and hilly course. Started off up the hill to 13, 22, 21 then into UTS Ku-Ring-Gai for 8, 26, 24, 29, 10. Couldn’t work out the out-of-bounds so ended up going the long way around to 9 and 30. I then bashed through the green down to 11 which turned out to be a pretty good move. The next few up Blue Gum Creek Reserve were really slow through 15, 22, 16, 20 and then went through the bush to 27 and lost 5 min at the control. By now I was really late already and a long way from the finish. I was really struggling up the hills to 18, 5, 4, 3, 28, 14, 25 and should have just gone to the finish there but stupidly collected more finishing with 7, 12, 19, 6, 1, 17. Finished 18 minutes late with 410 points way down in 9th and possibly my worst summer series result in 20 years. Steve Ryan finished well ahead on 500 points, Richard Green-450.

Orienteering race (West Sydney Summer Series) 49:28 [5] *** 9.45 km (5:14 / km) +101m 4:58 / km

New map at Riflerange Creek, North Rocks. Was told there’d be a bit of bush so made the effort to head out west. Decided to get them all today even though I knew I’d be late. The first few kms were on street to get to the bush through 1, 2, 21, 13, 12, 22, 10, 16, 29, 6 then Steve said he saw a brown snake near 7 so I listened to his advice and took the easy in-out option. The tracks were quite nice through 27 down the stairs to 26, 17, 28, 8, 18, 9, 18, 19 and the long slog up to 30 which was well out of the way. Finished with 20, 24, 25, 15, 5, 23, 14, 4, 3, and 11. So got all in 49.25, 50 points ahead of 2nd. Could have skipped 30 and finished in 43 min for 570 points.
