Orienteering race (Sydney Summer Series) 47:51 [5] *** 9.14 km (5:14 / km) +169m 4:48 / km
spiked:23/25c shoes: Brooks Trance 10

8th race in 10 days and legs showed it on the hills today at North Wahroonga.

Started with the street controls heading south through no.24 to 6 skipping no.1 then into the bush controls which got very steep in sections. Was running later than expected so skipped off the western controls 7, 9, 10 and 20. Lost a minute trying to go from no.4 to the finish through the dark green. Ended up crawling my way along an animal track under thick lantana. Could've been disastrous if I couldn't get out. Got 510 points for 2nd. Steve Ryan got 520 which makes it 13-11 to him. I've now gotta win the last two.

Orienteering race (Sydney Sprint Series) 15:04 [5] *** 3.51 km (4:18 / km) +7m 4:15 / km
spiked:21/21c shoes: Brooks Adrenaline 7

Sprint at Glebe Point. Very easy course, no time losses. A lot of the legs you could see up to 4 legs in front making map reading very minimal. Legs tired from backing up after the NOLs on the weekend.

Orienteering race (NOL #3 Mass Start Classic) 1:48:00 [5] *** 16.87 km (6:24 / km) +363m 5:47 / km
spiked:42/44c shoes: Brooks Cascadia 2010

Start was crazy. Lots of short controls with runners everywhere on different splits. My plan was to just take it easy and run straight line on my compass. It seemed to work as I didn't lose any time and was in sight of the lead pack at the first map change at 2.5km and 13 minutes.

The second loop two packs started forming at the front end of the field. I was comfortably in the second group but it started thinning out and then the route choice from no.20 to 21 split everyone up. I was now running with Tassie junior Shaun McDonough as we took the Echo Tunnel option and fight the green up the steep slopes to 21. As we were approaching Victor Manser the eventual winner was just leaving. The next 5 controls were short legs in the rocky area where Dave Brownridge and then Bruce Arthur caught us.

The third loop was getting hot. Started with another 5 controls in the same technical rocky bit. Then controls 32-38 went pretty smoothly in the pack of 4. I didn't look ahead at the long leg and after a quick look I decided to got left but Bruce and Dave went right. I double checked the leg and the final steep stint through the dark green after Echo Tunnel turned me off and turned around to catch the others. It turned out both legs were equal in time around 20 minutes. Although running behind Bruce pushed us along quite quickly. Then then picked up the pace even more through controls 40-44 which I just stuck behind. I finished couple seconds behind Bruce.

Finished in 6th place. During the race I thought I was in about 12-15th place as I never passed anyone. It turned out a few pulled out, some mispunched and we must have passed a few on route choice.

Victor Manser-98.05, Josh Blatchford-101.41, Lachlan Dow-106.08, Chris Naunton-107.20, Bruce Arthur-108.05, Me-108.08, Dave Brownridge-108.21, Shaun McDonough-108.45.

Orienteering race (NOL #1 Sprint Qualifier) 19:20 [5] **** 3.77 km (5:08 / km) +73m 4:41 / km
spiked:20/20c shoes: Brooks Cascadia 2010

Early start this morning getting up at 4.45am in Sydney to fly to Adelaide.

Sprint Qualifier at Flinders University. Felt slow in the buildings but ok once it opened up through the middle section. No real time losses, just too tentative in the technical bits. Ended up being in the fastest heat but still qualified in 7th. Matt Crane-16.07, Oscar McNulty-17.23, Henry McNulty-17.28, then 4 Stingers in a row all qualified Josh Blatchford-17.44, Matt Parton-18.10, Brooner-18.46.
4 PM

Orienteering race (NOL #2 Sprint Final) 17:55 [5] **** 3.99 km (4:29 / km) +42m 4:16 / km
spiked:17/20c shoes: Brooks Trance 10

Sprint Final on Waite Campus at University of Adelaide. Quite hot for this. One of the frst runners off because I was at the back end of the fastest morning heat. Felt better running but started off losing time at no.1 then didn't pick a good route to no.2 weaving through the buildings. Going from no.8 to 9 turned too early and got stuck behind a high fence. Then the rest of the course was ok. Didn't see anyone else on the course. Finished in 16th. Matt Crane-14.22, Lachlan Dow-15.12, Simon Uppill-15.18, Bruce Arthur-15.32, Oscar McNulty-15.48, Josh Blatchford-15.57.
