Orienteering race (MiniGaine) 3:04:00 [5] *** 31.4 km (5:52 / km) +684m 5:17 / km
spiked:48/50c shoes: Brooks Trance 10

MiniGaine starting from Mosman. Looking back, route choice was 1km too long and went out way too hard. Started with controls around Cremorne Point. Lost time early at no.30 when I missed th park and then the next control no.22 where the control was misplaced. Turns out the only 2 losses of time with nav. Then worked way around Bradleys Head, Chowder Bay, Georges Heights, Balmoral Beach. Really started tiring badly around Balmoral to a walk sometimes. Struggled into finish collecting all controls just under 4 minutes over time. Richard Green and Glenn Horrocks got all in 2.48 and 2.58.

O on The Clay Pan. Wasn't expecting this. It was a bush event and not only was the bush on the map, the controls were places well off the tracks so legs got pretty scratched up. Had a terrible run but somehow was only 10 points off the leaders Mike Burton and Patrik Gunnarsson.

Started off with no.2, 21, 12 then a bush bash through to 25 which took ages through the green. Couldn't get the next no.15 spot on, then went to 21 instead of 7. Next control was no.8 next to the main track but couldn't find it. The next few were very tricky but was ok through 20, 10, 29, 9 , 27, 19 and 30. Then a 300m thick bush leg to 18 but didn't have a compass and ended up overrunning 200m hitting the road. Decided to go back to it so lost 7-8 minutes! Decided to be late after that and collected as many street controls as possible. Reckon I collected more points than points lost for being overtime so was worth it. Finished on 470 points. Without errors should have scored 580 points (9 minutes errors and not finding no.8). Enjoyed the map and course though, will be more prepared next year.

Orienteering race (Sydney Sprint Series) 19:47 [5] *** 3.74 km (5:17 / km) +40m 5:01 / km

O at Fred Caterson Reserve. Felt flat today after no food from a hard day at work. Didn't take best direct line route choices to no.2 and 5. Overran the track entrance to no.9 and then small time losses through hesitations in the complex track network through 14-18. Again didn't take the best direct line route choices to no.19 and 20. Probably lost 2 minutes but it would have been a hard one to have a clean run. Did 19.47 for 2nd, Patrik Gunnarsson-19.00, Brooner-20.02.
