Adventure Race race (City Chase - Melbourne) 3:11:00 [5]
shoes: Asics Kayano 15

Start to CP1 and CP2 – We started at Waterside in Docklands and from there we ran into the CBD firstly to the State Library for the same BlackBerry CP as Sydney and then to Centrepoint Rebel which was also the same CP as Sydney. These were the 2 compulsory CP’s so was good to get them out of the way early incase of queues. Also, these were the only 2 that we knew the locations of straight away.

CP3 – Melbourne University. From Rebel we ran to Pugg Mahone’s Pub nearby but it wasn’t open and didn’t realise that it was the wrong pub. So we then caught a tram to Melbourne University for a workout CP.

CP4 – Pugg Mahone’s. We were lucky with this one. After completing the CP at Melbourne Uni we started to run to another CP in Fitzroy but came across the fast forward car. The car took us to Melbourne Zoo but we had no idea why. In the end, another team had told us you needed a zoo ticket has part of the scavenger hunt plus told us the location of the next CP. We were supposed to pick up the scavenger hunt list in the CBD but didn’t read the clue sheet, whoops! In the end, it turned out that we didn’t need to venture to the zoo as you didn’t need all the items for the scavenger hunt. Anyway, the car took us back to Melbourne Uni where we ran to Pugg Mahone’s in Carlton for a spray tan.

CP5 – Melbourne Dance School. Prong started racing off to this CP in Fitzroy before I had a chance to put my shirt back on so I just tried to hang on and got dressed at the dance school. This was just has well coz we just made the session, otherwise you would have to wait 10 minutes. All the teams we passed on the way didn’t make it. This CP involved doing the Zumba dance.

CP6 – Old Colonial Inn. We needed to raise $12 in Fitzroy which we did pretty quickly.

CP7 – Belgian Beer Café. We finally grabbed out scavenger hunt clue sheet at the Metshop in the CBD only 10 minutes before it closed and realised we needed to go to St.Kilda to get one of the items. This was kind of a waste as the optimum course route was to go to one of the out-of-town places, either St.Kilda or Fitzroy. Now we had to go to both! If we were smart, apparently Google images had the answers for the St.Kilda questions so we didn’t even have to go. Anyway, we caught the tram to the Belgian Beer Café on St.Kilda Rd and I did a questionnaire about Prong. We had already planned the answers coz we had the same CP in Sydney, although I still managed to get one wrong.

CP8 – Prince of Wales Pub. We ran into the centre of St.Kilda where Prong ate some worms.

CP9 – Luna Park. Another short run to Luna Park for a Pirate Ship style ride. Another couple of minutes and I reckon I’d have been throwing up.

CP10 – Woolshed. When we exited Luna Park our tram was just leaving to go back to the CBD so we tried to catch back up to it. We almost caught it at the next stop but just missed out so we kept chasing it and eventually caught it 4 stops later. The last CP at the Woolshed was to Wasabi (easy!) and then ran to the finish to win by 25 minutes.

Not the optimum route plan but good enough. We left 2 of the closest CPs to the finish out, mainly because we didn’t know all the locations till well into the course plus going to St.Kilda when we didn’t really need to in the end. These races are a lot more fun in city’s you don’t know so had a good time.

Day 3 on Collector Hill. Running much better today and felt pretty good. Navigation was wayward especially inside the circle but no major mistakes. Caught Kerrin at no.3 and pretty much ran together the rest of the course, was also running with a few others late. Did 66.47 for 23rd, Julian-51, Uphill-54, Shep-55.

Really out of practice with navigation and running through terrain this weekend. Disappointing Easter in the end.
