Orienteering race (Sydney Summer Series) 31:16 [5] *** 5.78 km (5:25 / km) +118m 4:55 / km
spiked:13/15c shoes: Asics Kayano 22 (Black)

Anniversary Cup mass start with a load of others. Everyone around me kept making mistakes which kept me in the game. Toby (2, 8, 13), Ondrej (2, 5, 7, 9, 13), Ewan (2, 8, 9).
Spent the entire race hovering between places 1-4 punching the 2nd last not far behind the pack. Didn't have the legs to catch up or the balls to race Ewan down the rockfaces to finish.

Orienteering race (Sprint Canberra - ANU) 17:24 [5] *** 3.23 km (5:23 / km) +50m 5:00 / km
spiked:20/23c shoes: Asics Kayano 22 (Black)

My best run and by far best result of the weekend with limited mistakes on a very tricky Uni map. Lost time on the usual hesitations trying to work out the detail. Then 18, 19, 20 got really confused with all the oob and the wide routes you needed to take. Finished in a three way tie not too far down with Marty Dent and Patrick Miller.

Orienteering race (Sprint Canberra - Uni Can) 16:22 [5] *** 3.85 km (4:15 / km) +49m 4:00 / km
spiked:13/17c shoes: Asics Kayano 22 (Black)

Better run than yesterday on a more technical map. Still made a number of small errors though.

#2 (10 secs) started running wrong long route choice and had to backtrack. Hadn’t read ahead.

#6 (10 secs) got caught on the wrong level after going through underpass. Then needed to take twirly stairs out.

#7 (10 secs) missed the straight option between the oob. Ended up very wide.

#12 (15 secs) couldn’t work out underpass and how to get to top level, then probably picked a sub- optimum route

Had SI Air this time which is far better.

Orienteering race (Sprint Canberra - Bruce R) 19:03 [5] *** 3.55 km (5:22 / km) +31m 5:09 / km
spiked:13/16c shoes: Asics Kayano 22 (Black)

Bush Sprint. Felt so lethargic from generally being running tired, but also a heavy lunch and beers. Really made me slow down but really lose much time.

#1 (10 secs) a few hesitations and bit wobbly trying to go straight

#6 (20 secs) tried to go straight but ended up hitting northern track

#14 (10 secs) bit offline

Forgot o shoes too which would have helped. Generally needed to go straighter on most legs. Finished way down, kinda expected on a bush map.

Orienteering race (Sprint Canberra - AIS) 15:49 [5] *** 3.75 km (4:13 / km) +55m 3:56 / km
spiked:14/17c shoes: Asics Kayano 22 (Black)

All my mistakes early on a fast easy map. And didn’t feel great. Lost time on:

#2 (15 secs) firstly starting to hit te wrong way round building where one way was an impassable fence then getting caught in the ramps.

#3 (10 secs) time deciding route then taking wrong one.

#4 (10 secs) taking early turnoff into oob.

Also not having SI Air (20 secs). Finished way down, really losing speed with age.

spiked:30/30c shoes: Asics Kayano 22 (Black)

Didn’t really have time to plan as had the kids. Ended up 600m off the optimum. Legs still tired too but got slightly better in second half. Really looking forward to a rest after the weekend. Got all controls in 42.37 well down on Ondrej, but the same min/km so shows my route was shite.

Orienteering race (Sydney Sprint Series) 19:12 [5] *** 4.17 km (4:36 / km) +37m 4:25 / km
spiked:22/23c shoes: Innov-8 X-Talon 212

Felt alright considering the long run earlier in the day. Lost time on route choice to #9 (10 secs). Need to work on reading ahead as so many times I had slowed down to work out route.

Orienteering (Sydney Summer Series ) 48:43 [5] *** 11.24 km (4:20 / km) +107m 4:08 / km
spiked:27/28c shoes: Asics Kayano 22 (Black)

Wasn’t planning on going as it’s such a dull street map. But Ondrej convinced me doing it mid long run. Glad to be punished through it as it’s good training.

So tired. Could feel it in the first km. Back-to-back-to-back 100km weeks catching up with me. Also doing this mid 27km long run. Lost 30 secs at #30 where road is mapped in wrong location.

spiked:15/18c shoes: Asics Kayano 22 (Black)

Quite a basic running course but stuffed #2, lost 30 secs going in too early. Also annoyingly lost time on every control as the SI were dangling with many of the locks stuck in the hole so had to stop to get the stick in. SI Air was being used so I reckon would have saved 30 secs or so with it. Not sure how many of the top guys had SI Air. Finished behind a bunch of juniors with Konsta the best a minute ahead.

spiked:25/30c shoes: Asics Kayano 22 (Black)

Feeling pretty good, expect legs understandably heavy. Feel like I have no speed at all. Messed around multiple times in the circle, partly because of the map quality and partly because I don't read my descriptions. Got all controls in 44.57, Ondrej-42.34, Richard Green-43.49, Konsta Vanhanen-44.56.

Very hot in high 30's. Felt very flat and missed a few of the bush route choices early.

spiked:28/30c shoes: Asics Kayano 22 (Black)

Felt much better than last week. Again didn't pick the optimum route, was about 400m off. Legs feeling tired after a big week running. Got all controls in 42.59, Glenn H-40, Richard M-41, James McQ-42, Steve-43.01.
