ORIENTEERING 15:34 [4] 1.86 km (8:22 / km)

second day of the Hallands 3 days. made it to the second control and was coming out of the control when i twisted my knee, the same one i dislocated. So I walked back up towards number one and the massive path going through the map and i saw Rona who told me to walk back and see Zoe.
So i walked back along the path and it was freezing.

ORIENTEERING race 36:07 [5] 4.04 km (8:56 / km)

first day of the Hallands 3 days. The area was really nice but there were loads of people. We got to look at our map for a minute before the race started which was nice.
Also the evening start was really nice.

orienteering training warm up/down 9:00 [2] 1.5 km (6:00 / km)

last day of training, there were two warm up parties as half of everyone was too tired to do the proper warm up.

orienteering training 1:00:00 [3] 4.1 km (14:38 / km)

Did a long-legs course with Eilidh C. We were concentrating on route choice so we each took a different route to the control and waited for each other. We still managed to get confused together though and ended up finding number 8 together.
We were using a 1:15000 map though so we were alright with getting lost.
In Dotetorp South today so some more bare rock that was lovely to run on and lots of marshes too.
Learnt that it is best to simplify long legs and just run until you het to your attack point., they are also really useful to plan other legs on. Try to find route choice for the least distance.
12 PM

orienteering training 10:00 [3] 1.5 km (6:40 / km)

did a "first control" exercise where there was a fake start box and we picked up a map and did one leg and then came back. This was so that tomorrow we didn't mess up the first leg through nerves.
Pippa got lost so the coaches were out looking for her!!

orienteering training warm up/down 7:00 [2] 1.0 km (7:00 / km)

orienteering training 1:00:00 [3] 3.5 km (17:09 / km)

Did a line course with no controls on it so had to know where i was the whole time. Zoe was shadowing me so she was asking me lots of questions about where i was and what i was going to do and what certain features looked like. It was really good and i learned loads.
Only did half the course with her as we met the Eilidh's half way round so she then shadowed Eilidh S and i did the rest of the course with Eilidh C. It was good and we talked about what features were around us.
In an area called Dotetorp North, it had some birch trees and lots of open slopes with sone bare rocks. The contours were quite small so you had to be in contact with your map at al times. It would have been hard to relocate in a race.
11 AM

orienteering training 20:00 [3] 2.5 km (8:00 / km)

Did a control pick with Eilidh C. we were trying to run fast through the terrain but we weren't actually going that fast. Just did a small loop of 1,2,3,14,15,16,finish so it was fun.
The weather was really nice so the forest was beautiful.
12 PM

orienteering training 38:09 [2] 1.34 km (28:28 / km)

Walk with the whole squad with Peter leading us. We walked through some of the the Re-Run map that i didn't do. We were seeing what different people did to the controls and then what Peter did. The marshes were really useful line features and the bare rock was really runnable.
Peter was trying to get us to think about what colour we were using whilst orienteering. He wanted us to use at least two colours
brown - contours
blue - water features (marshes)
black - rock features
He used the marsh and contour features for the general direction and then the rocks to pinpoint where we were.

orienteering training warm up/down 7:00 [2] 1.0 km (7:00 / km)

orienteering training 46:44 [3] 3.0 km (15:35 / km)

Did an attack point exercise with big circles that had the control circle in them. i used a windows map to make it harder. Had to choose an attack point within the large circle, navigate to it or see it and then to the control. Used a windows map so had to use my compass a lot more than i usually would.
In Idala South today so quite similar to yesterday but also very different.
Lots of slopes but accurate contour detail.
10 AM

orienteering training 55:44 [3] 4.32 km (12:54 / km)

Did a pointers exercise where we were using features in the control circle to point us in the direction of the next control so you didn't have to use your compass.
Found it really useful and think i am going to try and use it more in the future.
the second part of the course was soooo nice. It was a pine forest with lots of rocks but really runnable and on the side of a hill.
1 PM

orienteering training 29:25 [4] 3.32 km (8:52 / km)

Did a peg relay around the area we had been training on all day so it was fast and really nice

orienteering training warm up/down 5:00 [2] 0.77 km (6:30 / km)

orienteering training 57:16 [3] 2.32 km (24:41 / km)

did a line course, trying to stay on the line at all times. walked it so it was quite easy so jogged the last km. trying to get to know the forest and work on my compass and direction.
found lots of bilberries in the woods!!
in an area called Idala North.
11 AM

orienteering training 53:25 [4] 4.4 km (12:08 / km)

Did a corridors exercise with Eilidh C and also did map swap at the same time. Went the other side of the uncrossable marsh so it was really nice. good running as well.
1 PM

orienteering training 27:57 [3] 2.8 km (9:59 / km)

Did a relocation exercise with Eilidh S. One person took the other to the large control circle on the map and the second person had to find the control within the large control circle.
It was quite easy as we had been in the forest all day.
