ran along the road to barrahormid, then up the track to the old houses, long the little ridge to the loch, then up to the trig point and over to the fields on the other side. down to the old pier and back along the road.

ran down to Danna and up the hill with my new head torch so i could see which was nice!! the moon came out and was so bright! really nice

first did two line exercises at Faskally which were good and sometimes quite easy to go fast and know where you were.
then did two small courses with a contour only map where we had to use only compass bearings and attempt to ignore the paths.
the did a fun christmas peg relay. Pippa was my partner so we had a great time, really fun weekend

didn't really learn that much as i have been there about 5 times so know it really well but it was good to just have the contours

orienteering training 2:00:00 [3] 6.4 km (18:45 / km)

first did an attack points exercise on the hill above the woods, Pete shadowed me and we worked on what feature I'm going to use and if I'm going to go over or round the feature to get to my control. also I'm allowed to stop at the control and make a definite plan like above and then keep moving for the whole leg. really useful to hear what Pete had to say. freezing but really beautiful.
then did a visualisation exercise in the woods below the hill which was really fun but quite hard contour detail so sometimes tricky to visualise the leg or control circle.
then we did a fun clock relay at the end.
really nice to see everybody!

Hawkshead training weekend, we were in the area used for the JK relays two years ago. Zoe was taking the session and we did lots of compass and direction work.
first i did two star legs just with my compass so trying to go directly on a bearing.
then i did a corridor exercise with Julie shadowing me, started off walking and then went into a run. it was really useful as I'm not very good at compass as it requires a lot of map contact but i only went out the corridor twice.
then i did a bit of a windows exercise which was good for compass and distance judgement. that was really good.

orienteering training 2:00:00 [3] 5.1 km (23:32 / km)

went to a really nice runnable woodland area with marches cutting through the woods and a part of open felled area next to it.
did a control pick with Rona shadowing me which was really good, had some awesome control flow and it was really nice to run fast through the forest. the open area was really rubbish as there were brushings and branches lying around the place.
then i did a long and short legs course with Zoe which was good, we did a long leg and a short leg each. lots of interesting route choice!
the we both did a little course the opposite way round to each other and tried to do map memory so we were only allowed to look at the map once in the leg. really good practice.

ORIENTEERING 11:06 [3] 1.5 km (7:24 / km)

did the night relay around hawkshead youth hostel which was great fun but really confusing with the scale being huge!
