Parliamentary triangle sprint camp champs
Good to run a bit faster around. Navigation was slow and I got caught in a few of the traps but otherwise was okay. Fun run though!

Glenbrook long distance training
First 5 controls with Krystal talking through everything which was super helpful.Tried to continue on what we had been doing for the rest.
Not convinced I found #14 but was pretty sure I was in the right spot. Didn't get #16 at first so I went back and re did the leg and then it was better. Need to slow down when entering and getting close to control circles and do better fine nav. Went over the hill to #18 where there were awesome views on top. Should've looked better at the map though and noticed the extra fence which would've meant I could've run faster for longer as it would catch me anyway. Was very unsure before seeing it, even though I was going according to plan. A bit too low on #25 as well - definitely taking away from this camp that I need to be more aware of height and contour shape.

Mt Gladstone camp champs
Should've pumped myself up more before this so that it was a better session.
Very confused at the start by the lack of tracks as I was struggling to figure out what the start triangle was on. Was too high on #3 and low on #9 (height!!) and then was also very unsure about where I went on the way to #8 because when I got there I was not expecting to be there. I thought that a lot of this was bingo controls but got around somehow.

Buckenderra control picking then line course.
Wasn't very awake and was getting sick of not orienteering well so took a break at the 3rd control and thought about what I wanted to get out of the session and what I needed to do to get that and everything was a lot better after that. Was talking through everything I was seeing and needed to see and planning well.
First part of the line was good too until I got confused by the set of right angles and was very disorientated and struggled to get my focus back after that. Got very confused on the last hill as I was trying to read into the detail too much when I should've been looking at the contours more.
Think I convinced myself that this session went worse than it actually did because the majority of it actually went well.
Views from the finish were so good!
3 PM

Orienteering 32:57 [3] *** 3.42 km (9:38 / km) +70m 8:44 / km

Buckenderra prologue
Wasn't super keen for this at all and the wait before the last wave of starts just made this worse. Had a headache before even starting and was running super slowly because of this.
Got very demotivated when I was the last one left on the butterfly and the rest of the course was very sloppy. Should've focused more and also again looked at contours and height more.
4 PM

Orienteering 29:51 [3] *** 2.87 km (10:24 / km) +75m 9:12 / km

Buckenderra final
Feeling slightly better than before the prologue but was planning to cut it short anyway. First bit was fine as I had already been to all those controls, then cut from #4 to #8 and was a bit too high and far south for that leg. From #10, I did the butterfly backwards but was too low on #15. Was put off my the ladies sitting on top of the rock at #16 which confused me going to #15 - can't let myself get distracted by things like this. Wanted to get at least one decent leg in so made myself do #11-#12 slowly and properly before heading back.
I think I went into this arvo's session with a bad attitude and as a consequence had a bad time. Frustrating that I wasted the opportunity that this was a bit, but at least I did learn from it anyway.

Boboyan - follow me exercise
Around the course in a group with one person leading each leg and talking through what they were doing. Really good to learn from what others use and where they went off.
Need to be more aware of height.
Last 6 controls in a smaller group with Lani which was better.
Also need to be more conscious of where I go off hills and not do so too early.
12 PM

Orienteering 42:51 [3] 5.03 km (8:31 / km) +166m 7:19 / km
shoes: Inov-8 X-Talon 212 #2

Boboyan - long legs.
Good to practise on a 1-15 000 map.
Didn't have a good exit or plan out of #2 which had me taking a bit of a scenic detour which I didn't mind because I wanted to go and see the big boulders anyway. Was super tired and hungry by the end of this.
6 PM

Orienteering 19:00 [3] *** 2.91 km (6:32 / km) +71m 5:49 / km
19c shoes: Mizuno Wave Rider 19 #2

Sprint relay at Buckenderra.
First leg with no warm up so wasn't running very fast. Not into it at all at the start but settled after #3.

Campbell Park.
First 10 with Krystal talking through what to look for and what to use. Super helpful and made me think which was good.
Picking up controls afterwards, trying to continue on what we were talking about before but I think my brain was getting tired and not working as well so wasn't as smooth and did some silly things.
Compass needs work.
4 PM

Orienteering 30:28 [3] *** 3.47 km (8:47 / km) +25m 8:28 / km

Isaacs Ridge - downhill intervals
4 x downhill intervals staring at different points along the top which each took about 5mins down and 10mins back up.
First two were with heaps of others around and were mostly fine navigation wise. I think having others around tricked me into a bit of false confidence because for the next two I was mostly alone and was suddenly very unsure of what I was doing and slowed down a fair bit, even though I was still going fine I think. Started talking it through to myself which helped a bit but as soon as I stopped this I was still a bit panicky. hmmmm this seems to happen a lot when I get used to having others around and then suddenly theres no one there anymore...

Time/distance/climb does not include walks back up so totals for session: 1:02:38, 5.72km, 303m climb. (for future reference: also doesn't include first walk up to the start.)
