Orienteering - Urban race (Liverpool Uni Sprint (S)) 18:13 [5] 4.11 km (4:26 / km) +16m 4:21 / km
shoes: Brooks Ravenna 9

Great area for a sprint; really technical with no multi-level potential unfairness.

Missed a multitude of the best routes; had the excuse on #2 that #1 was very short and didn't have any planning time, but didn't have that excuse for any other legs. Lost time on 2, 7, 9 - the rest are more marginal I think.

3rd when I finished, not seen any updated results yet. Running felt ok until I actually tried to sprint(ish) and then felt tough.

Orienteering - Urban race (Liverpool Uni Sprint (N)) 18:44 [5] 4.19 km (4:28 / km) +32m 4:18 / km
shoes: Brooks Ravenna 9

Hilly compared to the first one! Elected not to wait the scheduled 80 mins from the start of the first race and started 30 mins early.

For possibly the first time ever, looking at the map in the start lane paid off and I nailed #1, but then punched an extra one on the way to 2 and got confused, probably eliminating all my good work. Such is life.

Not sure if I missed many routes here; conditioned by the first race to be a bit more choosy. Just two near the end, 12-13 interesting leg, up/down c.50 steps or 1.5x the distance with no climb - I went for the extra distance but would be interesting to compare splits. 13-14 I went for the up/down route rather than slightly further with only c.25 steps, that was probably a bad call.

Definitely finding the running tougher on this second race and not going as fast as the first; probably why it felt like I did less wrong but it looked like I was further behind the leading time.

Another three weeks before more O now - am I still an orienteer? It wasn't long ago when a three week gap would have been unthinkable...

The rest days definitely make a difference! Felt ok on the climbs. Expected a steep climb up Froggatt Edge but actually it was very gradual the whole way up. Could probably have pushed a bit harder on the first bit given this. Nice running along the edge and across the moor, and fun descent through the forest too. Passing people the whole way around from about 10k which was good. Lots of stony tracks on the way back, trail shoes would have been fine in the dry but the talons were ok today.

At the end there were three different types of homemade pork pie, one with black pudding and another with blue cheese; I was in heaven. There was also both banana cake and apple cake. Post-race food makes me happy.

Note

Entered the fell race on the day today by credit card. Amex as well. Times are changing.

Running - Trail (MH Fell Training) 1:46:02 [3] 14.3 km (7:25 / km) +595m 6:08 / km
shoes: Inov-8 Roclite 305

First proper night run, whole time with torch. Expecting an easy one but quite a few of the faster runners turned up and we went an ambitious route.
Really struggling on the midweek training runs but finding the races ok - I guess that's the way around that it should be!

Running - Road/Track (Easy, 3 efforts) 35:08 [3] 6.7 km (5:15 / km) +95m 4:54 / km
shoes: Brooks Ravenna 9

Easy, had a go at 3 segments, one hill and two flat. Did ok on the flat ones but way off the pace on the hill; maybe someone's been using it for sprints...

Running - Road/Track (Langley 7 recce) 1:23:44 [3] 14.31 km (5:51 / km) +439m 5:04 / km
shoes: Brooks Ravenna 9

Recce for a race I'm not doing... Good recovery run, and lots of people out. Pretty sedate pace, and not feeling too bad on the hills despite the weekend.
Bit of a knee niggle so will do something very easy tomorrow (or notching if it's raining...)
