Orienteering - Forest race (Windy Pits) 1:27:38 [5] 12.14 km (7:13 / km) +449m 6:06 / km
ahr:153 max:177 shoes: X-talon 212 (blk/flro) - Nov17

Pretty good run...apart from mispunching! I have never ever mispunched at two consecutive events before.

Apart from that I was navigating quite well, got stuck in undergrowth a few times, and some small mistakes, but nothing major.forest was a bit grotty but they'd done a good planning job to make it passable.

I'm looking forward to routegadget since I'm still not sure how I mispunched. But as yesterday,I wasn't checking the codes. I do not learn from my mistakes.

Light rain throughout but still quite warm.

Edit - MP'd the only rock, but punched a control on a rock. Didn't the code since it was the only rock! Looks like it was an unmapped rock and the control I punched was in a reentrant or something - I think this was a bit mean, but c'est la vie.

Running - Trail race (Parkrun - Stamford Park) 19:17 [5] 5.0 km (3:51 / km) +70m 3:36 / km
ahr:142 max:161 shoes: Inov-8 Roclite 290 (grey)

2nd. Felt like more climb than it was! Very slightly uphill for a very long way, x2 laps. Pretty much all trail, would be fine for road shoes in summer.
As inner city parks go, not a bad course, and not too much overtaking.

Calf felt the best it has in ages but still a bit dodgy.

Tried to keep the front guy in sight but come the 2nd lap he was well away.

Orienteering - Forest race (Duncombe Park) 56:23 [5] 6.51 km (8:40 / km) +255m 7:15 / km
ahr:148 max:174 shoes: X-talon 212 (blk/flro) - Nov17

Ah yes, now I remember why the white rose has a reputation.

Although - not a lot else on this weekend. Pretty grim forest which was either brashings, bracken or vertical. Good weather though.

Failed to aim off a few times and my distance judgement was all over the place. Low point was 5 minds to run less than 100m, control Dec reading fail possibly, gully UPPER, unfortunately I went to the bottom and it was a vertical slope to get there. Not even convinced it was in the right place, but so little confidence about where I was I don't really have much conviction in that. So steep I couldn't stay on my feet, hurt quite a lot as I slid down, bleeding in a few places.
Few more mistakes caused by not being careful enough.some tracks were marked and some weren't, but the terrain was such that you couldn't just ignore them all - I struggle in those situations.

Hopefully the sprint later will be better! You're allowed to wear shorts which is a good sign.

Orienteering - Forest race (Helmsley Castle Sprint) 13:36 [5] 2.99 km (4:33 / km) +22m 4:23 / km
ahr:134 max:163 shoes: X-talon 212 (blk/flro) - Nov17

This was an excellent sprint which I had near perfect run except from mispunching arrrgh.
I didn't check any of the codes because I was sure I was in the right places and trying to go very fast.
I think I only made one bad route choice going into the castle and lost maybe 15s, rest perfect. Cept the mispunch.

Great fun running around the castle at 1:1,500.

Edit - would've come 3rd in this ahead of Andy Llewelyn, Ben Stevens...basically people who always beat me. Dammit.

Note
(rest day)

Weirdly, massively aching legs from yesterday.
Since I race all the time I think it's from actually doing a warm up and stretching afterwards, which I don't normally do...

Painted some more fence.

Running - Trail race (Pilsley Fell Race) 42:54 [5] 9.84 km (4:22 / km) +279m 3:49 / km
ahr:131 max:159 shoes: X-talon 212 (blk/flro) - Nov17

Very good conditions; the expected rain held off and it was about 15°C.
Determined to beat last year and equally determined not to check my watch to check whether that was likely or not. So tried very hard on both the downs and the ups. Probably helped quite a lot to know the course and so know when the end was near.

Very happy though! 36 seconds faster in very similar conditions.

Running - Trail (MH Fell Training) 1:42:06 [3] 15.24 km (6:42 / km) +559m 5:40 / km
ahr:124 max:149 shoes: X-talon 212 (blk/flro) - Nov17

Persistent rain...no flies though which was a nice change!

Note
(rest day)

Did some more fence painting. It's a slow job. But I've finished the dangerous bit where the chance of falling into the stream was pretty high.

Running - Trail long (Shining Tor) 2:10:09 [3] 18.25 km (7:08 / km) +739m 5:56 / km
ahr:122 max:149 shoes: Inov-8 Roclite 290 (grey)

Wanted to see how long it would take to run to the highest point in Cheshire, turns out quite a while! Pleased that I managed to run the whole way. Started raining as I got to the top which meant the view was of nothing unfortunately; I'll have to go again...
Totally soaked by the time I got home. Too hot to contemplate wearing a coat.

Got a bit lost on the way there - I blame the OS.
