Orienteering - Forest race (Park Hall score) 59:17 [5] 9.38 km (6:19 / km) +203m 5:42 / km
ahr:144 max:171 shoes: X-talon 212 (blk/flro) - Nov17

Don't like score events - but I didn't fancy another drive to the lakes for a trail race, and the fell race alternative was only 10k, so thought I'd get some o practice.
Raining at the start but still quite warm.

No real plan as usual other than to try and get all the controls and see what happened. Unnecessary amount of climb and probably distance as well, but just managed to get back in time.
The area was quite complex for a country park but I didn't like the map much, mainly due to path sizes (some small paths were massive and vice versa), doubt I'll be rushing back.

Running - Trail race (Turner Landscape) 1:48:12 [5] 17.35 km (6:14 / km) +894m 4:58 / km
ahr:149 max:165 shoes: X-talon 210 (orange)

One of my favourite races I think. Gradual climb at the start, gradually getting steeper to walk/run but never reaching more than about 0.5Bl. Then once you made it to the top, undulating, with great views either side. Some rocky bits but not much by Lakes standards. Finding the lines would probably have been trickier without all the people and the excellent vis.
English champs counter, so all the elite were there. I think I made top 10 ladies, although that was in question for much of the race! Steady for the initial climb and then overtaking much of the rest of the way round.
Really nice descent, long grass (bit steep for me) first, then slightly rocky but mainly short grass fellside which I really like.

Happy with my time despite being outside the top 100. Would definitely do that race again. Really nice to be out in a reasonable temperature as well!
After the last few long races, the distance felt pretty easy, just need to work on the uphill speed.
The new shoes were excellent.

Some nice descents both through the trees and through fields, sufficiently tree-rooty to catch some of the road runners - but not all of them. Final climb made it feel like a proper fell race, most of the rest was undulating or the uphill was a nice surface. Managed to beat 1st lady though, hurray! Fish and onion rings in Matlock Bath afterwards.

Running - Trail race (Eccles Pike Fell Race) 26:43 [5] 5.39 km (4:57 / km) +237m 4:04 / km
shoes: Inov-8 Roclite 290 (grey)

First race I did last year that I've done again with unchanged course, so was keen to compare times.

Glad to see that the move North to somewhere hilly, and a year's worth of training, has improved my time.

By 5 seconds.

Held up a bit on the descent but not by much. Caught someone on the last hill up the the finish which was nice, and caught girl #2 in the last 30m. Didn't quite make it past girl #1.

Shoe choice worked well, it had rained enough to make the tarmac slippery but not to make the mud muddy.
