Orienteering - Urban race (Skegness urban) 57:56 [5] 12.9 km (4:29 / km) +30m 4:26 / km
ahr:142 max:160 shoes: On Cloudace

2nd: http://www.log.routegadget.co.uk/rg2/#88&cours...

http://www.logonline.org.uk/Result/2018/SKEGNESS18...

Excellent run, only made 1 mistake (nice lap of a scenic lake 26-27, lost less than 30s), some route choices might have been slightly better to go differently but I'm happy with my decisions. Only 60s behind Leon. A shame not to see a bit more competition on MOpen!

Well planned courses, kept to the interesting bits as much as possible and the bits included to add the distances tended to be good route choice legs.

Orienteering - Urban race (Belvoir Park Estate) 14:38 [5] 3.73 km (3:55 / km) +17m 3:50 / km
ahr:127 max:148 shoes: On Cloudace

Mass start, gaffled. 5th.

Wrong choice at start trying to be fast rather than detailed enough, and that pattern continued, missed a lot of cut throughs. Lost 20s on 7 and 10 more on 9 which took me out of contention for 3rd (probably where I should've been on paper) although not much shame in losing to the 2 GB girls in 3rd and 4th.

Good fun.

I think the shoe designer probably put too much effort into making then look good and not enough into making them the same shape as feet.

Orienteering - Urban race (Cattle Market Maze O) 9:40 [1] 0.45 km (21:29 / km) +9m 19:32 / km
ahr:104 max:121 shoes: On Cloudace

Great fun. I did terribly.

I've never seen 'please wash hands after finishing' on a map before!

Orienteering - Urban race (Louth) 37:17 [5] 8.51 km (4:23 / km) +38m 4:17 / km
ahr:114 max:133 shoes: On Cloudace

Good event, longer than I expected for a middle distance although times are about right. A few choices that are probably 50:50 that I didn't faff over, but 24 missed the best route and lost a bit of time. Saw the trap which caught out pretty much every one on any course that I've spoken to :)
Mistake on 6 where I stopped 50m away from the control and was confused, having oversimplified due to focusing on the thick black lines to the detriment of everything else.otherwise good.

Shoes growing on me a bit.

Running - Road/Track hills (RW Shoe Test #1) 27:55 [3] 5.76 km (4:51 / km) +185m 4:11 / km
ahr:125 max:147 shoes: On Cloudace

Had a go running up/down Blaze Hill since I drive up all the time and it's very steep in places.

Good first test of the new test shoes. Apparently they cost £170.

Uphill they didn't feel anything special, a bit heavy if anything, but they were very floaty on the flat and down. They aren't going to be fast but I do feel like I could run a very long way in them. Time will tell!

Running - Trail race (SM #3 Shutlingsloe) 27:45 [5] 5.77 km (4:49 / km) +289m 3:51 / km

Edit: 9th

Trailrocs again

Short and sharp, paced it ok I think, slowed a lot on the steep bits and let people come past but then overtook again on the flatter bits. Lost some time when it became surprisingly singletrack for a bit but got past all those people later on.
Overtook exactly zero people on the downhill second half despite running my fastest ever mile (5:03) - too spread out by then. Lost some time taking the rocks rather than the path off the top too as didn't realise what was compulsory and what wasn't.
Good fun, no idea how I did position-wise. Hopefully I can make it to 6 races in the series to get the tee-shirt :)

Note
(rest day)

There are too many excuses available at the moment.
Made puff pastry (note to self: not worth it; just buy it) and put up two towel rails.

Orienteering - Forest race (Brereton Heath) 37:12 [4] 6.63 km (5:37 / km) +25m 5:30 / km
ahr:134 max:160 shoes: X-talon 212 (blk/flro) - Nov17

Vegetation at the start looked dire and I resolved to stay on the paths. However this was a terrible tactic as actually the vegetation was fine and there were paths everywhere to the extent that none were reliable.
So 1 was a disaster as I had the approach all wrong, relocated via 16 (on the other side of the map) and probably lost a minute. Resolved to ignore the paths and use compass, and this worked excellently. Went to 4 before 3 (line crossing issue) and lost another minute, but that's a different issue!

After that didn't really do a lot wrong other than bad lines through the undergrowth sometimes, but that's just luck.I was happy that I did exactly what I'm always wishing I would do - adapt to the map and terrain rather than just moaning about it.

Running - Trail tempo (Evening run) 33:49 [3] 6.37 km (5:19 / km) +244m 4:27 / km
ahr:153 max:173 shoes: Nike Pegasus 32

Today everyone at work was encouraged to bring in food from their nominated world cup countries; consequently I've eaten exclusively cake today including 4 different types of custard tart.

Had to get out to burn off some sugar! Nice evening; tried to go up hills where they presented themselves.
