Orienteering - Forest race (JK Long Beaudesert) 2:28:35 [5] 21.82 km (6:49 / km) +557m 6:02 / km
ahr:156 max:191 shoes: X-talon 212 (blk/flro) - Nov17

All the distance stuff is clearly working out as had no problem with the distance/time running; had a couple of shot bloks after 1 and 2 hours each and never felt like I was running out of sugar.

No massive nav mistakes until 31 where I missed the closeness of the contours signifying the steep slope and so stayed at the bottom for too long to avoid the hill. Lesson! If you have to do the climb, just get it out the way! Because of this missed the way through the green I wanted and then had to relocate on the spectator control, lost a few minutes.

Other annoyance was 20 where I took an indistinct path through dark green - the less said about that the better, but lost a massive 5 minutes and a lot of blood in the brambles. See routegadget. Will be playing it safer in future in that scenario.

Overall though probably still my best result in a proper classic distance, so I'll take it.

Orienteering - Forest race (JK Middle Brereton) 52:14 [5] 7.12 km (7:20 / km) +330m 5:57 / km
ahr:148 max:171 shoes: X-Talon 225 (July 2017)

Plan was to play it really safe, and had good results all the way until 23, despite there being a path most of the way and despite being on this path, for some reason didn't quite appreciate just where on it and so convinced myself I was on the wrong spur (actually on the right spur) and so went and explored another one.lost 4 mins here because I was so sure I'd been wrong to start with. Annoying since I was being so careful.

Some more scrappy mistakes after this due to annoyance. Not too fussed about those. Not a terrible run, fitness ok.

Orienteering - Urban race (JK Sprint MOD Stafford) 16:21 [5] 4.01 km (4:05 / km) +22m 3:58 / km
ahr:132 max:164 shoes: Salomon Fellraiser

Trivial course. One bad route choice 10-11 but no more than 10s, and one map folding issue where I had to slow down due to losing my place post-folding. Otherwise no problems.

43rd/87

+3:32 on Kris which is 6s improvement on last year...

Orienteering - Forest race (Biathlon O) 5:34 [3] 0.99 km (5:37 / km) +5m 5:29 / km
ahr:133 max:150 shoes: Salomon Fellraiser

Pretty fun. 5/5 on the practice shooting with no pressure and low HR, 3/5 immediately after running the sprint course, resulting in two penalty loops.

Laser rifle very easy to use. Would definitely have a go at this if it was properly competitive.

Note
(rest day)

Was going to recce kinder downfall after work, but not really enough time to pack and clean as well :(
Rest day probably good before the JK anyway.

Running - Trail (MH Fell Training) 1:42:29 [3] 14.62 km (7:01 / km) +578m 5:51 / km
ahr:147 max:187 (sick) shoes: Salomon Fellraiser

Struggled - right at the back of the group. Loads of people, first time it's been split slow/medium/fast and carrying the 4kg I couldn't keep up. If it's like that again I won't take it! Would've been fine without it. Good training though.

Only coughing occasionally. Could definitely feel my ankle although not as bad as I thought it would be which is good news for the weekend.

Also - it was bloody cold. I've been back for an hour and my thumb still hurts.going to have to do something about this darn raynauds.

Running - Road/Track (MH Road Training) 1:14:43 [3] 13.68 km (5:28 / km) +112m 5:15 / km
ahr:134 max:154 (sick) shoes: Nike Pegasus 32

Y'know how some days everything feels good and running just feels easy?

This was not one of those days. Felt like I had very little energy; I did skip lunch yesterday...but for dinner I did have a massive Indian, so I don't think there's a problem there.

Made up for it just now by eating half an apple crumble, so all good.

Tried old shoes in case the Hoka's had caused my ankle thing - bit early to say. Rest day tomorrow I think.
