Orienteering - Forest race (Blacka Moor) 1:56:41 [5] 12.56 km (9:17 / km) +533m 7:40 / km
ahr:146 max:180 shoes: X-talon 212 (blk/flro) - Nov17

Yep,quite comfortably 2nd without the dibber loss :'(

_____
Character building conditions, low visibility, muddy and snowy and raining. A good run until I lost my dibber and had to spend nearly 10 mins looking for it. Incredibly I actually found it, but would've been a much better result without that time loss. C'est la vie.

Caught someone from shuoc on the way to 4 who was clearly a much faster runner but a much worse navigator, he kept overtaking me and then making bad route choices and then I wouldn't see him for a while.

Good until 9 which the leg on which I lost the dibber. Probably going to use the backup wrist strap in future! Shuoc caught me only to ask where 8 was, as his map was so covered in mud he couldn't see it. Since I'd been looking at the ground for the last 7 mins I was happy to help him. Soon afterwards, after retracing my steps for the third time,I found it,I think it had been pulled off my finger by the heather/bracken I'd been holding onto.

Happy with all my route choices and didn't make any mistakes (!), this is a rare occurrence so makes the dibber thing all the more frustrating. Actually quite proud of not retiring as it was definitely unpleasant enough on the exposed moor to justify it; nice in the forested bits though.

Running - Trail race (Parkrun - Wythenshawe) 19:58 [5] 5.0 km (4:00 / km) +8m 3:58 / km
ahr:133 max:150 shoes: Salomon Fellraiser

Tried to do south manchester but was cancelled again; however more prepared this week and diverted to Wythenshawe after checking sale and Stretford.

Felt like I was running ok but clearly not as this was very slow. Course was not their usual one due to ice; 30pc grass and 70pc trail, maybe. Quite a nice course, 2 laps so no overtaking issues and in a nice park.

XC is cancelled this afternoon too,I thought they'd do better than this up north but clearly not.

Orienteering - Urban race (Whitworth Park score) 16:30 [5] 3.76 km (4:23 / km) +38m 4:11 / km
ahr:119 max:138 shoes: X-Talon 212 (May 17)

XC cancelled so 30min score in a park at 1:2000 was the only option available. Despite a convoluted scoring system (odds first, then evens, bonuses for each set in order) got all 20 controls in the best order in well under 20mins.

I think I was winning although DVO have an insanely good 12 year old who I only beat by about 40 secs.

Running - Trail (Recce - part of 'Trigger') 4:16:28 [3] 15.02 km (17:05 / km) +555m 14:25 / km
ahr:106 max:150

Recce of Trigger from Crowden to Bleaklow. I think we concluded the best route in these condition was whatever route the previous people had taken.

All off-path (although this didn't make a lot of difference; we crossed/ran along the Pennine Way several times without noticing) and knee-deep snow made it slow going; especially for me at the front! Much faster coming back down again in our own footprints, but we decided to follow some other prints on the way back which disappeared at some sheep (had the sheep consumed them?) and then it was hard again, even downhill. Some rocky bits and steep slopes too.

But in general, awesome. Great use of a Friday. Re-met someone who I met originally at OMM iceland, which was surprising for both of us! We both knew we recognised one another, but not where from.

Running - Trail hills (Foggy hills ) 1:02:34 [3] 9.17 km (6:49 / km) +473m 5:25 / km
ahr:126 max:156 shoes: X-Talon 212 (May 17)

Old xtalons definitely not as good as mudclaws in the snow, which was still plentiful at the top. Fell over once but that was more due to the fog; thought I had to stop for a gate but turned out to be a bush. It was super foggy. To the extent that running down the middle of a track you couldn't see the edges.torch on head was ok in the snow, but in areas with no snow i had to take it off to be able to see the ground at all - most disconcerting.

Not too cold or windy, very dangerous descending in the snow with no visibility and lost the track coming up - clearly no-one else has gone that way since it last snowed!

Felt ok running up but definitely regretted the massive Christmas lunch and three mince pies on the way down again.

Orienteering - Urban race (Marple street) 1:12:33 [4] 13.85 km (5:14 / km) +171m 4:56 / km
ahr:140 max:160 shoes: Nike Pegasus 32

4th dammit, would've been second but failed to count the number of E's in 'Greenbeech Close' correctly...
----

Decided as I ran neither yesterday or tomorrow that I'd do 75min rather than my usual 60. It was much warmer than recently at about 4 degrees and I had too many layers (two). It was also raining, which meant that the compacted snow and ice had a nice layer of cold water on top. It was pretty dangerous.it was easier to run on the roads than the pavements as they were less snowy; this wasn't always possible and so never really had chance to push that hard.I think conditions will have affected everyone though.

As usual, no plan, just tried to get a lot of controls. The one where the clue was wrong threw me a bit, and there was an extra canal path which wasn't on the map, but nothing major.got overly worried near the end about time since penalties were particularly harsh tonight, but actually had ages left and could've got another 40 points trivially; bit annoying, should have checked watch again near the end.

Good fun again, enjoying these more than I expected too, and good food in the pub afterwards too.
