Orienteering race (Wareham Wood SW Middles) 46:43 [5] 5.99 km (7:48 / km) +160m 6:53 / km
(sick)

Now have a nice cough to go with my cold :)

Fairly disastrous run. Pretty good 1-6 then got overconfident. Too far E on 7 despite going all the way round the veg rather than through (which would've been quicker with hindsight). Relocated ok, only lost 30s ish. OK 8 and 9. 1m lost on 10; on ditch too far W. then very tentative to 11 as trying very hard not to lose more time. Found cairn to E. 12 ok. 13 wasted time by coming back down the crag and along path to W -
should've climbed up from control. need to plan more in advance so stop doing this! 14,15 ok. slow on 16; put off by additional clearing. 17way too far S at the cairn; not sure what happened here. Path to 18 would've been better.

Similar on 19 to 12; but this time came automatically up from crag and it would have been better to go down!! grrr. Lost time on 25 as I was too close to rough open. Rest ok.

In total lost maybe 6 mins ish. Encouraged to beat Adam by a few secs on a few legs; just a shame he was ahead by a few mins on a lot of the others! Need to work on consistency.

Orienteering race (Tavistock Urban) 1:02:04 [5] 9.0 km (6:54 / km) +200m 6:12 / km
(sick)

Feeling less ill this evening :) although not better yet

Ran 13.7km - bit far for an urban in the evening with another event earlier on? Not a fan of the double sided map with changes midway between legs either!

Really good run; only one mistake; lost 2 mins going most of the way to the wrong side of a fence; bit annoyed about this since rest of run was so good.

Orienteering race (Fernworthy) 1:16:53 [5] 9.1 km (8:27 / km) +350m 7:05 / km
(sick)

Still a bit ill but lemsip is helping; felt ok when running.

Started pretty much first so woke up most of the controls and saw no one and no elephant tracks for the whole race. Tactic of doing this to avoid the worst of the rain worked though! Torrential downpour only began near the end.

Mistake on #1 which was so close to the start the circle was broken by the triangle - came out at the path to the W. Probably lost 30s or so. Then took the path route to #2 whereas it was probably better to cut the
corner; although I think it was right to be safer at this stage. Happy with #3.

Major issues getting out of #3 (rated 1.0V on the Voose scale of terrain horribleness); it looks like there is a way through on the map but I didn't find it. came out SW of #3 rather than WNW; very annoying. In fairness, probably should have tried much harder to navigate accurately to the gap. Found #4 easily from AP of the hide.

Another mistake on #5;trying to go too fast down the ride and went too far.shouldve been looking on left for thicket rather than right for ditches; as everything was so wet, ditches not obvious. Fine to #6.

#7-cut across nicely to PJ but then failed to find moss covered rocks within moss covered everything else - had to re attack from path corner. 8,9,10,11,12 all ok.

Took path route to 13 which looking at it afterwards seems best way. Following a stream 250m through green up hill is s much shorter route but I reckon would've taken ages. Went through the green to 14 though since only 25m-unsure if this was best.

Happy with all rest.

No results yet; probably lost around 6 mins in total but felt pretty quick otherwise.

Orienteering race (BOK Urban - Westbury) 34:24 [4] 5.8 km (5:56 / km)
(sick)

Pretty ill today; sore throat, migraine, cough; felt generally bad all day. Did vaguely consider not running...but not for long.

Actually, once I'd started I don't think I was affected by it.

Happy with most of the beginning - main lesson learned is to make sure to unfold the map with enough legs showing; this caused me to start going from 7 back to 6 again since I'd folded 8 off the edge, and 5 was on a direct line to 8 (this probably only makes sense with the map in front of you).

Pretty much fine until #19 when disasters started - caught up david hunt and got massively distracted trying to overtake him which encouraged me to come out of 19 in the opposite [worse] direction to him so he got past again; then picked the better route to 21 (W) but missed a cut through so he was ahead again. Then overtook to 22 despite us both going S which was probably worst, but 23 was concentrating far too much and staying ahead and not enough on the map cost at least 20s looking in the wrong place. Very frustrating - must make myself take the best route even if its the same as someone else and just put more effort into overtaking in the middle of the leg rather than at the end so don't have the pressure coming out of the control.

Running wasn't too bad although further down on Adam than last week :( must try harder!

Running intervals (B&W Track Session) 1:24:03 [5] 9.42 km (8:55 / km) +14m 8:51 / km

Found this pretty tough after the weekend. Did 4*1200m then 4*200m rather than the 1500s and 8 200s on offer

Pretty consistent on the 1200s (4.10, 4.13, 4.16, 4.17) and the 200s (32, 32, 33, 33) but not that quick - keep missing the monday sessions due to races on tuesdays or bank holidays; possibly should do less races and more training? And now missing the wednesday intervals as well due to the BOK urbans.

Will be good to have tuesday/thursday/friday as rest days this week in preparation for the four Tamar Triple events at the weekend.
