Running - Trail race (Ironwood 10k) 46:39 [5] 9.2 km (5:04 / km) +378m 4:12 / km
(sick) shoes: X-Talon 190 (blue)

Found this very tough and lost to a few people I'd have hoped to beat. Came 14th.

Still got a bit of a cough although it's definitely on the way out. Felt pretty wheezy up the hills, though. And there were plenty! Constant up/down/up/down. Quick on the downs. Some nice bits of single-track through the woods; felt a bit like a RogueRuns night race...except not at night.

Pretty muddy with very red mud. People were saying it was the muddiest it has ever been.

Always hard on Sundays; 50 lunges on each leg after a full set of squats, all after a hilly 10k, is not too be trifled with.

Orienteering - Forest race (High Meadow) 59:49 [5] 7.26 km (8:14 / km) +296m 6:51 / km
(sick) shoes: X-Talon 212 (Sep16)

Well planned course in some lovely runnable forest in great running weather. Had some good legs but too many almost comically bad ones...

http://www.ngoc.routegadget.co.uk/rg2/#95&cour...

4th, but 11 mins behind Phil. Lost a lot of time... but not 11 mins.

#2 - didn't make the best decision as it had too much climb, but I was happy it had a good AP.
#3 - probably lucky here as everyone else lost time; it wasn't exactly where I expected (as per everyone else) but I stumbled upon it reasonable promptly.
#6 - first miss - expecting a large crag whereas I actually jumped down it without noticing it and kept going. 30s.
#10 - lesson in why you should aim-off. 90s.
#13 - left 12 without a real plan and didn't know where on the path I was; not enough confidence to know that the hilltop I was looking at was indeed the right one. Should have identified as a danger-leg and gone slower. 60s.
#16 - well. PJ AP was quite a long way away from the control; didn't pick up the rough-open strip and then faffed about in the ditches wondering what to relocate from, eventually went to the path but still misjudged the distance away from the veg boundary. Luckily saw some people in the right place eventually, and found it by running towards them. Not my finest hour. +5mins. Should have taken a bearing from the hide or the knolls or something to have a closer AP.
#runin - couldn't even find the finish - +30s.

8:30 lost, so well deserved victory to Phil here even had I had a perfect run - kudos.

Thought this would be hard after 3 weeks off.

Correct.

Running - Trail race (Rogue night - beechenhurs) 40:28 [5] 8.37 km (4:50 / km) +161m 4:25 / km
(sick) shoes: X-Talon 212 (Sep16)

This was not a good idea.

I thought that since I only really have a cough now, I'd forget about that while running and it would basically be fine. I pushed the vague feeling that you shouldn't do anything that makes you out of breath with a chest infection as it can push it deeper and make it more serious, out of my mind.

After a few hundred metres, started coughing and continued every 30s or so the whole way round, getting quite painful at times, struggling to breathe on a few sections, then started to get a headache and feel light headed... Bit unfortunate because it affected my enjoyment of what should've been a really good race.

Great cake afterwards, though.
MDC probably 2nd team.

9th - looking at the times I think I'm only around a minute slower than I should've been so not as bad as it felt.hopefully the chest pain I've developed will be gone by tomorrow!I feel as if I've learned a valuable lesson...

Feeling much better today but not well enough for actual exercise.

Note
(sick) (rest day)

Felt pretty disastrous this morning too but dragged myself to work. Probably the right decision as starting to feel better in the afternoon. Still not normal though - fingers crossed for tomorrow.

Orienteering - Forest race (Blaise) 44:07 [4] 5.72 km (7:43 / km) +197m 6:35 / km
(sick) shoes: X-Talon 212 (Sep16)

Jetlagged - 9 hour time difference.

Also despite avoiding the cold that one of the group had for 2 weeks, clearly managed to acquire it on the journey home.

But pretty dismal run anyway; too far W on 1 (30s), thought 2 would be at the bottom rather than the top (30s), route to 9 was bad choice (up+down rather than round, for easy AP, but this was just unnecessary (60s), found an extra unmapped path on 11, but this is no excuse as it was in totally the wrong place to be the path on the map (3mins).

Even without the 5 minutes loss would still have been easily beaten by pretty much everyone who beat me anyway, but would've been less embarrassingly bad.

Note
(rest day)

Traveling back from Japan. 12 hour flight to Heathrow T5 then a jaunt to T3 to retrieve my wallet from lost property...then back to T5 since that's where the car was, then home.

Got back about 6pm but stayed up until 11 to try and combat jetlag.pretty sure this didn't work.

Note
(rest day)

Traveling to and being a tourist in Tokyo.
Bullet train is pretty speedy.
Got view of everything from the top of the world trade centre, then went to a temple, then saw busiest pedestrian crossing in the world at Shiboya, then went to a conveyor belt sushi place, then to a Japanese arcade, then some shopping, then a bar/restaurant. Not bad for half a day.

shoes: Salomon Fellraiser

Basically just wanted to go running in Japan.
Very slippery on the roads and very nearly fell over once or twice; much easier on the open snow near the piste.

Got some funny looks.

Running - Road/Track (From car service) 46:35 [3] 9.92 km (4:42 / km) +86m 4:30 / km
shoes: Nike Pegasus 32

One last run before holiday. Quite a good route to the car place other than not quite coming out of Eastville park in the right place. Hilly.

Much less stressful than cycling and a nice day for running. Should've run this morning too really but forecast was for torrential rain - in the end it was only light drizzle which would've been fine.
