Urban Orienteering race 44:15 [4] 7.45 km (5:56 / km) +41m 5:47 / km

Peebles SOUL Urban Orienteering, Blue Course (6.8 km straight line) in 44.13 (official). Decent run in a chilly day which managed to avoid the worst of the weather (except for a burst of sleet near the end) with no significant blunders except 12-13, where I failed to spot the steps down beside the church and so ran all the way round via the swimming pool instead - oops! However, pleased to be 2/12 Men SuperVet and 5/26 on Blue.

parkrun race 24:34 [4] 5.0 km (4:55 / km)

Hay Lodge (aka Peebles) parkrun #85. I've wanted to do this parkrun for ages and there was just time to fit it in before the MTBO in Glentress. The three-lap (and hence three-hill) course provided a serious workout on a chilly morning, and in the circumstances I was happy with 17/50 in 24:34. However, Hay Lodge is evidently some kind of GPS dead-zone as my watch wouldn't locate satellites at any point during the run, and hence no GPS trace!

Cycling 19:42 [3] 2.56 km (7:42 / km) +172m 5:46 / km

Cycle up to the MTBO start. Uphill all the way!
11 AM

Cycling race 57:32 [3] 9.33 km (6:10 / km) +248m 5:27 / km

Glentress MTBO, Course B (4.7 km straight line). Surprisingly enjoyable workout with some interesting route choices and no really brutal climbs. Official result 1/2 (!) in 56:35. Rather damp and muddy afterwards, but didn't notice either during the race. Definitiely worth trying again at some point. The GPS trace looks like a weird distorted gazelle to me!

Extra loop, then back down from the MTBO finish. Downhill most of the way!

Terrain Run 56:49 [3] 6.85 km (8:18 / km) +244m 7:03 / km

CLYDE Terrain Run, 356 clockwise with Dave and Ty going up via the bunker and returning via a new (at least to me) trail through the woods which eventually brought us out in the big field by the road. Brutal conditions (rain, wind, driving rain) and very wet and slippery undertfoot. A "character building" experience.

Garscube Interval Session. 2 x (1200 m then 1000 m then 800 m) sustained effort on a blustery evening. Tough session!

Monday Jan 31, 2022 #

Cycling 1:39:42 [3] 30.13 km (3:19 / km) +352m 3:08 / km

Out through Milngavie, the Hole-in-the-Wall carpark, Mugdock Village, Old Mugdock Road and Strathblane to Dumgoyne, and then back via Strathblane and Milngavie on pleasant afternoon, finishing just as the first drops of rain began to fall.
