Road Race race 1:14:01 [5] 8.5 mi (8:42 / mi)

3rd Milngavie Trail Race (approximately 8.5 miles / 13.5 km with about 500 feet climb) in 74:01 (official time). Steady start on a sunny Sunday morning but struggled on both hills and was only hanging on (and getting gradually overhauled) out to the far end of the loop. Actually felt a bit better on the way back, and pushed quite hard for the final section back to the finish. Out in 39:19 (about 50 s slower than last year), back in 34:44, for an unofficial time 74:03. Pleased to be (just!) faster than previously (74:14 in 2015, 74:06 in 2016, 74:01 this year).

Road Race race 24:11 [3] 5.0 km (4:50 / km)

Linwood parkrun #49 in 24:11. Planning to jog round with Alice, but after a steady start she really picked up the pace and I found myself trying more than I expected to as she ran a lifetime PB by almost a minute in 24:08.

Orienteering race 29:10 [4] 4.7 km (6:12 / km) +120m 5:30 / km

CLYDE/STAG Evening Event, Tollcross Park (4.7 km, 120 m) in 29:10. Reasonably brisk round a generally runnable area in light drizzle with no navigational errors. Thomas (approximately 21 mins) shot past me near the end.

Wednesday May 31, 2017 #

Hill Race race 1:11:05 [5] 10.2 km (6:58 / km) +426m 5:46 / km

Kilpatricks Hill Race (10.2 km, 426 m) in 71:05 (unofficial). I'd forgotten how long and tough this race was, even with dry conditions underfoot! Steady start, but getting gradually overhauled on the climb and very slow up the track. Gained places on the long descent. Slow up The Slacks, but then steady to the end. Took it easy on the road at the end to protect my knees. More CLYDE and STAG members supporting and marshalling than running!
