Orienteering race 1:08:56 [5] 6.5 km (10:36 / km) +325m 8:29 / km

FVO SOSOL 5 and Compass Sport Cup/Trophy Scottish Heat, South Achray, Short Brown, 6.5 km (325 m) in 68:56 with about 4:25 of errors. Physically and technically demanding course of a bright and sunny morning with snow higher up. Lots of controls (31!). Missed the control before the roped stream crossing and then took a slower direct route (rather than the faster route mostly on tracks) up the hill to 7. Thereafter running in a pack of three (I was probably running slightly slower but orienteering slightly better than the other two) which made small errors but helped to keep us all going. Pleased to keep going all the way on a famously uncompromising area. Good to see John E running his first orienteering event for over a year.

2 PM

Orienteering race 16:04 [5] 2.4 km (6:42 / km)

Scottish Sprint Championships, North Muirton, Male Veterans 40+, 2.4 km straight line in 16:04 with about 1:20 of errors. Steady run at a nicely organised event spoilt by falling for the trap on the penultimate leg of an otherwise straightforward course. Rather lacking "zip" after a busy week.
7 PM

Orienteering race 52:15 [5] 4.9 km (10:40 / km) +285m 8:16 / km

Scottish Night Championships, Kinnoull Hill, Perth, M45 Course, 4.9 km (285 m) in 52:15 with about 2:50 of errors. Good run on a tricky area with lots of paths slightly spoilt by diverting to help another runner on 18 to 19 who sounded to be in serious trouble but in fact had only dropped something. As a result I lost concentration and enough time to finish just behind rather than just in front of Dave (52:02). 3rd M45 behind worthy winner Andy Dale (46:36) and Jon Cross (49:03). Well organised event with registration, download and cakes in a monastery crypt! Well done to TAY for the two excellent events making up their "Perth Perfect Day Out".

Terrain Run 56:14 [4] 6.6 km (8:31 / km)

CLYDE Terrain Run / Night-O Practice around Mugdock Country Park on a cool and wet evening with very wet conditions underfoot. Officially 6.6 km straight line distance with 15 controls. Slow start, but picked up the pace when we split at number 7. By running past number 8 I got a sufficient head start to stay ahead of the fast pack until the end. Good workout (and excellent night-o practice), especially after the split.

Road Run 40:00 [3]

Warm up and warm down runs to and from Anniesland from Garscube Sports Complex.

Interval Session 28:36 [5]

3 x 1 mile with a short jog back to the start between laps round the usual Anniesland loop with Garscube Harriers in 6:59, 7.00 and 7.17. Just behind Emma each time. Chilly, but no sign of the dusting of snow visible on the ground in Bearsden in Anniesland.

Terrain Run 45:43 [4]

Clockwise loop of Norland Moor in the dark and the cold on a clear, still evening. So still in fact that on the outward leg over the moor I was continually running into the cloud of water vapour created by my own breath and couldn't easily see where to put my feet. Wet and slippery underfoot after all the recent rain. A good way to get yesterday's race out of my legs.
