Running (speedygeese) 30:00 [3]
shoes: helios - black

Joined Geese long run from Calwell shops, knowing that I would run more than is sensible, but I enjoy their company so much. Mixed walk and run the entire way and returned alone for last part. Right hammy insertion hurt the whole time but ... could have been worse I suppose and was fine as soon as I stopped.
We skirted Theodore on a firetrail at edge of reserve before arriving at southern tip of Theodore; the start proper. Really enjoyed exploring new country for next part as we headed east and up hill with views of some mighty steep hills. Turned right, climbed through a gate onto Fishbone trail. Up Callaghan hill for great views and boulders, down and up again to edge of Rob Roy reserve where wild pigs eat lone trail runners (they told me). Ran with Bron for lots of this who also had a lower back injury - injury loves company! Dropped behind on the return then took a short cut directly thru middle of Theodore. Being alone I slowed to a dawdle because it was already over 90 minutes. Saw some saltbush in a garden and stopped for a bit of a graze (free electrolytes!). Continued on until I spied an alluring swing hanging from a tree. Hopped on for some core exercise - yeah nah, just for a nice swing. Took a photo for Dave but cut off my head. Self timer is challenging when swinging. After all this time wasting I was surprised to catch JenB and famousDave close to Calwell shops. Managed to sneak past with an ingenious short cut.

Long enjoyable breakfast at the least promising looking cafe ever. It was INSIDE Calwell shopping centre facing the Woolies checkouts. Think food hall with half the vibes. But so cheap. Avo and tomato on buttered toast was only $7. You could take out a mortgage with the change. The bread was square and got me thinking it's been years since I ate sliced square bread. The cup of tea rated highly. With no pretensions to fancy hipster style they served me an honest bag in a mug with milk on the side. Very hot, no pot-contamination with herbals, very drinkable, better than 9 out of 10 teas at cafes.
Top morning all round, whole run/walk done on only one cup of tea with a bit of milk. Excellent fat-carb utilisation balance :)

Note

did bugger all. if there was a period button I'd click it. Not that it stops me from exercising but it did give me floppy lazy tired feelings so ...
Had a picnic at Snappers on the lake for Lou's birthday weekend. So pleasant sitting under trees with breezes of a good temperature wafting over the skin. Went for a walk along edge of lake with irrepressible Alana, Patrick and adult Dan. Thongs not good for climbing.

the run bits

Flan said she had to drive to sydney so couldn't go this morning. I quickly recruited Canbeurovision friends Pete lyon (also an orienteer!) and Jess c who both said yes without hesitation. Pete commented that he'd never walked up before, only run, but he highly approved of my fast walking pace. Jess sensibly dropped out halfway because knee was hurting, P and I continued to top on a chilly morning relative to past month of record-breaking heat. P sang me his new song *while running* which isn't easy because I've tried it. It's not often you hear photo rhymed with Hashimoto, great lyrics. I tried a little bit of running and I moved well but the niggle still there.
At the end we catch Jess and are saying goodbyes when who should turn up but .... Flan. It was like that scene from Muriel's Wedding where she goes to the island and her rejecting friends are shocked to see her. Explanations were given and, as is always the case when I introduce Flan to anyone, P mentions her well-muscled calves. I just ignore it now as does she. They must be the most commented on calf muscles in the nation, partly due to the petite size of the rest of her.
Flan and I then had a little run back up to first corner again so I could hear about her mum's car crash (minor) that changed the plans for the morning. Sadly her mum will be too nervous to drive to cbr anymore.
On the bright side - RUNNING up the hill, when WARMED up, felt just GREAT! Only bit of glute pain but it felt like RuNNinG hurray!

Sort of a sad morning. Discussion of the Kranski index offers some hope (not kranski but can't remember the name). At 100 out of 100 so offers something.

Dance/physical theatre (Swing dance) 25:00 [1]

Not much actual dance in the beginners class altho lasts for an hour. Good to go back and feel unco for 10 minutes, then back in the groove. Nice vibe.

Beautiful morning on mt majura with Flan! Sparkly fresh after thunderstorm at midnight. Saw a woman in a white sari near pretty bridge - unusual exercise gear. She was cheerful. We say Good morning! to everyone when we do this so can judge cheerfulness and chattiness. Sun rise was a perfect orange-gold globe just after we hit the ridge. On way down saw the larger group of enrobed persons - can't think of a better shortcut to spirituality (or at least mindfulness) than climbing a hill at dawn. Then we ran into DavO and Liz to cap off perfect morning, stopped and had a chat.
I tried a few seconds of running about 3 times and judged that spine is pretty good today in a relative way. Managed a couple of zero pain steps that felt awesome.

Rode to blackie, walked up to circum getting a bit melted. After a rest and cold water set off to do a lap running the ups, walking the rest. Ended up being 8 mins of run in very short segments. Could feel R glute as soon as I ran but kept at low level by such short ints. Running action felt a bit better today. Feeling good now at home - 100 steps forward 50 steps back. Patience!
At end of lap I heard tapping sound, looked up the hill and saw a man hammering a tree. Oh dear, thought I, he's doing something he shouldn't be like putting up a sign or damaging a tree. I walk up to see and you wouldn't believe it; he had a hammer and chisel and was trying to free a large beetle "trapped" in the tree!?! I ask to be enlightened and he told me that he noticed this bug trying to get out 2 days ago and when it had not succeeded today he thought he would release it from it's struggles. The next 5 minutes were tense, especially for the insect. But suddenly he freed it! Out of a perfectly cylindrical bore-hole it came and he deposited on shady side of a nearby tree. Looked like a cicada maybe (I really have no idea). It seemed to have got caught in the last bit of bark and wood at exit. Or maybe it was affected by the heatwaves and didn't have the metabolic resources to escape.
Good karma for all! My sciatic nerve compression will probably magically heal this week because of it.

On the way home I intended to pick more blackberries but it was hot so I went via the secret orchard instead (no hills) to pick up enough fruit for the day. Tasty and handy

up and down majura with flan. Cloudy and cool, a welcome change. A bit slower this morning but I didn't mind that at all.

Strength Stability Suppleness (yoga class) 1:00:00 [1]

Tried a different yoga class and found it very unsettling. It turns out I am adapted like pavlovs dog to all the signals of my regular class. "A change" may turn out to be a big mistake. Didn't like the only postures focus, the word cardio (!), lack of plants, smell of plastic in the room, unfresh air, lack of a beautiful setting, the fast and intense postures and the fact that afterwards I got up and suddenly felt like I'd twisted my knee - couldn't straighten it properly until the next morning (where fortunately the problem is gone). Yikes!

Cycling 18:00 [2]

At least I got a short bike ride there, and got a bit rained on.
