Walking (Rogaine) 3:15:00 [2] 12.0 km (16:15 / km)
Twilight rogaine on Mt Ainslie, very social and a most enjoyable evening, especially as it cooled down. Teamed up with Flan and fam for an easy-going evening stroll with the baby in a backpack who enjoyed it immensely. We sometimes heard other screaming toddlers who were not so lucky.
I tried, mostly successfully, to leave the nav to the others so that they could enjoy the challenge. Nothing worse than having an orienteer on your team who takes over. I think I was ok, only becoming firm when team members suggested going straight up avoidable hills, or on the cusp of a major error.
It was great to see such a big turn out and many familiar faces. Clumps of people at half the controls made nav too easy really. Must try some real oing again soon. Saw the Pirate team on the back of Ainslie so I did my only running of the day to beat 3 pirates, Gramps and Davo to next control shouting "Arrr me Hearties", meanwhile flan was distracted by a control nearby that turned out to be j quinn in an orange and white top, sitting and having a snack.
Stayed for the presentations after hearing that Lolly had cleared the course (he would deserve some good cheering). Our team made 3rd place in the Family Category and since the others had left I collected all the pretty certificates. This drew protests from Lolly that I clearly had not run with my family. I patiently explained that as long as you run with people who are family members it's not important whether any of these families are in common.
Top efforts by Lolly's team, a limping Acejase, Gramps and davo for clearing the course (or nearly).
