Running long (Mt Tennent) 1:16:51 [3]

Mt Tennent PB by 24 seconds and sunrise at top at 6:08am with Flan.
18:20 at CypressPL, 33:20 at Basin rock, 49:00 at Bushfold T junction, 1:04:10ish at Fire Trail. Route is from Trip recorder to Tower at top.

I was feeling a bit seedy the night before so was planning to take it easy. Flan surged up all the stairs then waited for me. I felt like I ran more of the route overall. Beautiful clear night, no cloud and a low golden fingernail moon allowing a spectacular Milky Way display. A few times we stopped, turned off the torches and just gazed. So perfectly still and silent it really is worth getting no sleep to do this (but only just).

Flan saw a young wombat on the path, I was gutted to just miss it. Didn't see any other ppl until nearly back down again. Nice to see Tom Brazier and 3 mates running up (they were starting just as we finished). Then we had second breakfast of green tea and fruit at picnic table, then back to flan's for 3rd breakfast of scrambled eggs with spinach on bagel, garnished with nasturtium flowers :) First breakfast was cold banana porridge with milk and 2 cups tea. Nothing beats a 3 breakfast morning!

Walking 1:30:00 [2]

The descent.

Cycling 42:00 [3]
weight:59.6kg

Up bike tracks and a pleasant ride over Bruce ridge and ?Gossan hill. Saw a dark wallaby, an echidna crossing the bike track and a large crowd of soccer fans returning from the Asian cup game. Good for legs after yesty's track. Body parts actually feeling great today even before ride. Getting there!
Tea and cheese and B&Cs afterwards.

Cycling warm up/down 15:00 [2]
weight:59.9kg

To the AIS track.

Running race (actvac) 1:28 [5] 0.4 km (3:40 / km)

1:28.50 to be accurate for my first ever 400m with an age grade of 65% which is my highest ever maybe? A bit of a surprise for a natural slow person.

I was in heat 1, the slowest heat. There were start blocks, I didn't use them. Smashed by a bunch of young but very athletic kids. I definitely started faster than I finished. Exhilarating to be honest, can't wait to have another go, or even try 200 or 100m. Lauren Wells (nee Boden) won the final 400m.

It was daunting to arrive at the ACT vets meet and find that it was a combined meet with (non-vet) athletes. There were very fit teenagers and 20-somethings in tiny lycra outfits doing all sorts of impressive warm ups for sprinting and hurdling. I couldn't see any vets at all amongst the crowd in the stands even. But by the end of the night I'd found about 6 of us.

It was great watching the excellent running and occasionally recognising a name from Olympics or Australian team.

Running race (AIS track) 15:43 [4] 3.0 km (5:14 / km)

15:43.28 Only a dozen in the race but luckily there were 3 other vets. Got well lapped by the young athletes but mostly ran alone and I was really hurting by the end. You can't slow down too much because everyone can see you. First k was too fast then I had to slow a bit. It's hard to run 3k after a 400m race. I'm going to really hurt tomorrow I think.

Running warm up/down 15:00 [2]

Did a good slow warm up outside the arena then found some flat grass and warmed up for impending speed which felt pretty good. Decided I could go for it in the 400m.

Cycling warm up/down 14:00 [2]

to blackie

Walking 13:00 [3]

Fast walking (the 2 hills mentioned below).

Running 30:00 [2]

Lower back has been sore again since late sunday, just the usual permanent injury and it will settle if I do enough S&C and hill walking. After a good core warm up at home rode to blackie, walked up concrete path (9 mins) then did a walk/run lap of circum, then a second lap just running. Sacrum never stopped hurting so I just tried to run with good alignment. Walked to top (4 mins) for water then a gentle walk down. Saw someone from run-up and still trying to remember her name (we said hello).

I feel pretty good now that it's done, and am glad to get a run in before rain. When my back and knees are all settled again I'm going to get quite a pile of PBs.... I feel it coming. Or maybe I'm relentlessly optimistic?

Walking warm up/down 22:00 [1]

The down hills and rests of above.
