Cycling warm up/down 16:00 [2]

To Flan's

Walking (recovery) 1:30:00 [1]

Morning walk from Flan's to top Majura, down zigzag, to Wilburs for 2nd breakfast, back to Flan's. We could both feel some good DOMS, especially in quads. Flan's were a lot sorer because she runs much harder but I was very pleased to be a little bit sore.

Running race (Majura Vineyards One Peak) 1:22:16 [4] 12.0 km (6:51 / km) +400m 5:53 / km

RACE REPORT:

Beautiful clear and still morning for running. I helped Stu for a bit after watching him sprint back and forth to cover 2 carpark marshal positions. Then I lined up, waited for Gramps to finish teasing the finish recorder, and we were off. I was a bit more careful to keep it really slow knowing that 12k was a lot further than I've done in any training which meant that I was near the back when we hit single track up Majura. Unfortunately the runners in front were stopping still for obstacles of foliage and fallen timber which ruins all the fun. I told myself not to hurry and gradually passed the group only when easy, noticing many triathlete tops and a few skirts. But at the road I think quite a few gradually repassed as I did a run-walk combo.

But then we turned left onto the steep down hill FT and I switched on my fast-legs-down-hill running. It felt SO good to fly past all these young and fit looking runners (mostly female) all the way to the saddle. A new competitive me burst forth! I resisted the temptation to ever look back to save face in case I was re-passed later.

I was alone over HH and still enjoying myself, walking the steep ups to save legs. After the down hill to behind houses I began to tire and was noticing the back pain more than I'd like, but judged it ok to keep pushing on with little walk breaks to save body. Acejase on the 20k passed me here and gave me a lift with an encouraging comment. By the last k some of the skirted triathletes were close behind so it was good to get a "hurry up!" cheer from Vanessa, Lou and KV. I kept pushing and am pleased to see that there are 9 people within a minute behind me at the finish.

I thought I'd had a good run but it always feels hard. Later when I saw the results I was over the moon with 8th female out of 32. I'm not in the slow group any more, so happy about that!

Cycling warm up/down 17:00 [2]

Riding to flan's, good to move the legs before running hard.
12 PM

Cycling (recovery) 35:00 [1]

Riding home and then some food shopping; about 15, 10, 10. I'm pretty sure that the legs would have hurt a lot more without this so I made myself get on my bike.

Cycling warm up/down 17:00 [2]

To Blackie. Saw an echidna on footpath on Dryandra st so I stopped to watch it snuggle into someone's garden. Lucky me!

Walking hills 12:23 [3]

From upper blackie gate down hill for few metres, R up hill then L behind gardens to SE Quarry track, straight up to top to Pedestal (with the bearings on it). This is my new up hill training route.

Felt great today. Steady effort with legs feeling light and breathing strong but not heavy. Felt pretty easy. Practised the lean plus tiny fast bicycle feet with no spring. This is what I was using when sped away from blue t-shirt on tuesday. Every now and then I'd do a few metres of normal slower long stride with push-off walking, to stretch the legs. Very happy that this weeks R knee niggle is gone, yeah.

Running 29:00 [2]

Down to circum, one lap easy with fast feet in 14.35. Did some drills and saw another echidna on SW side of hill. I felt really really good running along, effortless and still no knee or other niggles. I was floating. Jogged gently down to bike then a few mins of long stride walking to stretch out. Rolled home via Ben's to get a protein replacement capsule from under his broody bantam hen. Also helped my self to a handful of electrolyte supplements from the lush herb garden.

Cycling 16:00 [2]

To Kates's. Good to move the legs as I can feel this morning's blackie sesh more that I expected (it was a walk up!).

Walking 45:00 [1]

I had promised a walk with K, lucky it was social, scenic and slow cos I was tired. Nice stroll over Majura only up to shoulder, it's so green and pretty at the moment.

Note
(rest day)

R knee annoyed me in bed last night. Will rest today and I'm giving it a bit of stretching and alignment and movement attention. Hope I haven't overdone things ...

Running race 20:07 [4] 2.2 km (9:09 / km) +220m 6:06 / km
weight:59.2kg

Another month, another Mt Ainslie Peee Beeeee; just 4 seconds faster than last month, on a warm day. I'm glad this PB didn't take another 13 years. Special guest host Stu was race director doing a good j harding impersonation. Blue t-shirt was gradually gaining on me over the steep FT then I pulled away when we got to the concrete path. I think that means my pacing was good and could still run properly near the end. It was at Gramp's hurdle gate where I realised that I'd missed getting under 20 mins. Maybe I'll have to learn the hurdle and save myself a second or two?

I think I was last female, but not last overall. With Banned-A Mara-Selfie joining in I can guarantee I'll never be last again. He took about 4 photos between first appearing below the summit and crossing the line (and he went the wrong way up the stairs). Route and time are not very important to him I feel. But he's happy...

Brisk run down with Lou and Jess on concrete track. Saw a large black shingle-back lizard crossing the path :)

In the morning I dug a grave and for J's dog (which lived in my yard all it's life), and in the arvo I had route canal therapy. A Big Day.

Running 17:00 [2]

Running down, plus a bit extra on flat for legs. R knee is a bit tender this arvo.
