Orienteering 48:00 [3] 4.2 km (11:26 / km)

Hilly course at Story
Pretty good navigation, some very well placed controls but I read the contours well and nailed them. Picked up the last 3 controls resulting in significantly slower speed.
Ran the course in shorts. There were some briars but the visibility was good throughout.

Running-Trail 20:00 [2] 2.5 mi (8:00 / mi)

Running-Trail race 17:16 [4] 5.0 km (3:27 / km)

Weird race. Someone stepped on my shoe in the first few steps of the race, then I eventually decided to put it on properly after about 200m. I spent about 10-15 seconds putting it on and was behind literally everybody. By the time we started up the first hill, I had caught up to the back of the race. I had to pass a lot of people, so I surged whenever I had a chance to move up. In the woods, there were some windy sections where I couldn't move past anybody, so I sprinted the short straightaways to get past people. By the time I made it out of the woods and back into the more open part of the course, I could see Dominik but he was far in the distance. On the final loop, a few people passed me because I was dead from all the surging. In the finishing stretch, I passed one Roncalli runner who thought he beat me and eased off in the last 20 meters. Wrong! I put in a final surge to secure 25th place. I beat Howard and thus maintained my varsity spot for sectionals next week and likely for the rest of the tournament. Throughout the race I thought he was still i front of me so I pushed forward but I had apparently passed him without noticing him in the midst of all the other people I was passing in the woods.
