Red Y. Goal today was to go slow and focus on perfect navigation, and for the most part I met this goal. Knew exactly where I was the entire time, and made only 2 or 3 time-costing mistakes (as in >1-2 min). Did not push myself at all physically, so I know that if I did, I would have placed very well.
For tomorrow I need to focus on picking up the pace while maintaining clean navigation, as well as microroute choices.

orienteering race 1:52:18 [3] 11.65 km (9:38 / km) +180m 8:57 / km
shoes: Salomon Speedcross

Sand Spring red course. An ehh race, clean except for 3 controls with costly mistakes.
Control 1: Decided to rough compass/rough map it to the control instead of precise compassing from catching feature to catching feature (something that would have been a much better idea in this terrain/vegetation). ~15 minute mistake *cringes*
Control 5: Lotta people had trouble on this one. I had the right idea with using my compass, the issue was a parallel error on a similar rocky spur. Had a cool head the whole time, and didn't get half as turned around as most everyone else, but, again, I need to be more careful with compass/attackpoints. ~6 minute mistake
Control 8: Went in without a clear attackpoint. Ended up dropping too much and came across the open forest w/ distinct vegetation boundary by chance. ~4 min mistake
Made a few smaller mistakes throughout, need to focus on getting smoother and cleaning up my navigation.
(*Note: 7.9 km course)
