Orienteering 30:25 [3] 4.02 km (7:34 / km) +120m 6:35 / km

British Relay Championships - Summer House Knott

In a team with Craig and Rona, Men's Short.

Started off well, moving through the first 3 in the pack. People split apart to 4, and I was a total twat and screwed it up. Somehow persuaded myself I had come much too low, even though I had been on line and I knew where I was. Within 20m of the control, then just turned around and pissed off, whoops. 2 minutes down the drain, and the pack had obviously vanished.

Alone for the rest, banana into 13 and had to walk up the hill to 14, but apart from that it was fine. Ended up 5 minutes down on the lead in 10th, but I can't help but feel I'd have been up there if only I hadn't messed up 4.

Gotta get my head screwed on more, and trust myself - two big mistakes yesterday and today from losing confidence whilst going well.

Craig had a better run than I, pulling us up into 4th and Rona was as reliable as always getting us up into 2nd for a shiny silver medal - which I definitely didn't deserve for my ineptitude!

Run 10:30 [3] 1.72 km (6:06 / km) +70m 5:04 / km

A vaguely panicked jog to the start, though I was only a minute late. Absolutely dripping by the end though, fastest I moved all day.

Got immediately started on my jelly babies in the box, legs were feeling rather heavy.

Orienteering 1:29:21 [2] 7.78 km (11:29 / km) +260m 9:50 / km

British Long Distance Championships - High Dam

Plan was to take it steady, and see how it went. To that end, nice and slow to 1, getting it cleanly. Then I realised that my nice and slow pace was actually just going to be as fast as I could manage, and settled in for the long haul.

Daft route to 2, was scared of the climb for some reason which wasted a lot of time, not to mention coming in across the steep slope was wrecking my ankles and it was more or less impossible to know where I actually was.
Then I just ran off like a eejit to 3 without a proper plan.
Struggling to read the map here to be honest, everything was so small and impossible to work out #pathorcrag

To cut a long story short, eventually wandered round towards 13, taking the path around the bottom. Not sure if this was actually a good route or not, but it was relatively easy running. Tweaked my ankle coming up the hill, sat down to wait for the pain to go away and checked the rest of the course and the time it had taken to get here.
Re-evaluated my life choices and decided to bail out, adding to my list of incomplete races this year. No ragrets though, would've still been out there otherwise. Feeling my lower back out there more than my hip, which was strange

Run 9:18 [2] 1.41 km (6:36 / km) +22m 6:07 / km

Wandered back through some really quite pretty woods, then started jogging once I hit the road

Run 32:38 [2] 4.3 km (7:35 / km) +20m 7:25 / km

Checking the short trail with a bag of flour in hand. A few places where the trail had been scrubbed out, but nothing major which was a relief
7 PM

Run 1:00:32 [1] 6.63 km (9:08 / km) +30m 8:56 / km

Jogging round the long after the group, making sure they weren't getting lost or confused. Seemed to go well, we weren't harassed in Gracemount or anything
