SSS #25 Woolwich

Very lame performance on my last SSS this season. Did a major mistake already before the race started. Yeah, ate like 8 warm cross buns and way too many Easter eggs throughout the day. Not a good idea when aiming at decent running performance later in the day (lesson learned).

Started with not an ideal order of bushy controls with a minute mistake on #1 as a bonus. Followed by at least 30'' by stupid route choice to #30, using the path above the cliffs instead of the wharf. On #23 I climbed into someones garden thinking it's the open area already and then barely dragged myself up the steep hill. Felt like rubbish already there, after less than 3km. Then wrong route choice from #8, 30 sec at #18 - was already dark and I just couldn't see the bloody control. Last km with zero morale. Also took a BIG effort not to let all the cross buns out, if you know what I mean.

Got the lot but 3:33 late and like 5 mins slower than Steve.

Then got bitten by a giant bull ant and finally chickened out from planned run back home. Kudos to Bart for toughing it through.

Easy run around the CBD. Left calf pretty tight, otherwise felt good.

Planned beer run postponed so decided to run back home from work. Which was a good decision because it was way too long without a proper long run (with Jabulanni 45km in three weeks). So ran from Macquarie Uni along the Schrimptons Creek, through Ryde, across Gladesville Bridge, around Iron Cove, through Lillyfield, around Glebe foreshore to Wentworth Park (sub 1:40 halfmarathon without big efforts and with stops at red lights etc so there is still something in my legs) and that's when (at 6.30pm) I texted Bart and Brooner that I'm thirsty and what are they up to...

Got home at midnight with 33km on my Garmins, good 8 or 9 beers and stops at Quarryman's, Staves, Wayward and Leichardt Hotel. Good fun and Wayward fuckin rocks!
