British Middle Champs - Stockhill

Really fun area in old mining terrain with tracks and pits everywhere. Was a battle of the sprinters really with Alice, Charlotte, Kirstin and Cecilie.

Bit shaky through the first couple, trying to get used to the mapping style. Then got going well through to 6 where I caught up to Kirstin. This was really good as we both pushed each other hard along the tracks, although too hard at times as I lost lots of time in the circle trying to spot the control on several occasions - 10, 12, 13, 16, 18.

British Sprint Champs Heat - Bath Uni

After qualifying easily the past 2 years, I made an effort to cruise the heat this year and save some energy for the final. However I found it hard to stay mentally focused and this combined with trying to read the tiny control descriptions meant that I felt like I wasn't flowing very well and legs felt heavy.

Scrappy through the first couple, having issues reading the detail on the map. Caught sight of Kirstin (1min person) at 6 and was running similar speed to Alice (on different heat) so knew that I was going okay. Then lack of focus resulted in a pretty massive error after the road crossing...misread where I'd crossed the road and thought the footpath had a hedge all the way along it, so went far right to get to the control (+30secs). Woops!
Last few were super easy through the field so cruised it in, despite the urge to race when Kirstin zoomed past me ;)

Still managed to win the heat, but felt very comfortable with plenty more to give.

British Sprint Champs Final - Bath Uni

Started off really well, hitting all the routes through the multi level area. Caught sight of Alice going in/out of 10 and no sign of Charlotte when I went past the same point so knew I was going well. Was about 18secs ahead of Alice at this point.
Lungs started to burn climbing the stairs to 11 and was quite hesitant and slow through the tight controls from 13-20 as a result. My fast start begining to catch up to me. Lost a fair amount of time here, particularly to 18. Then just tried to push as hard as I could through the easy controls to the finish.

Finished feeling extremely dizzy and had to lie on the ground for a very long time till my heart rate and breathing got under control. Not sure if it was from pushing so hard or an underlying bug as I've been feeling a bit off the last few days.

Pleased with 2nd place though...was tightly packed with only 12secs separating the first 3.

Foot improved from Wednesday. All the stretching/massaging/ibuprofen gel appears to have helped. Hopefully this weekend doesn't destroy it.
