Leg 3 with Claire Gordon

Sarah had a great run on leg 1 and came back in 7th, then Jill and Georgia managed to bring us all the way up to 2nd, just in front of Ambleside (although we were about 7mins behind Ribble Valley).

I'd already sussed out that we were exiting the arena on the same route that Leg 2 took, so we hooned off down the road. Then proceeded to get extremely confused cutting across to the next road, couldn't understand the map in this area at all. Eventually hit the road we were supposed to be on and began the steep climb to CP1. I was really struggling on the steep climbs and Claire was leaving me in her dust. However, once we hit the tussocky contouring on the way to CP2 we were much more evenly matched and I ended up leading most of the way from here to the finish.
We took the round route to CP3 as did many other teams (there's since been much debate about crossing of walls/going to the top of Moel Ellio but there was nothing in the rules saying we had to use the crossings or purple lines along the fences). Took my gel climbing up the hill out of 3, then CP4 was an area we had recced which was good as the ridge was in the fog but I knew exactly where the saddle was that we needed to turn left at. Both of us were running really well to CP5, trying to catch a group of mens teams ahead of us. My legs turned to jelly climbing up to CP6, but once we hit the downhill they came to life again. Managed to knock my knee on a rock in the quagmire of the final descent so had some good war wounds.

We managed to maintain our 2nd place and had the fastest women's time for the leg which was really cool :)

Jenny ran last leg and held on to 2nd place which was awesome :)

Edit: Ribble Valley ended up getting disqualified for having an illegal member so we ended up winning!

FRA's recce with Claire and PeterG. Up Moel Ellio then dropped down into the valley with the lake. Walked a fair bit up the hill, just taking it easy before tomorrow.
Nice terrain, all very runnable and grassy. Final descent to the slate mine is going to be an absolute bog tomorrow.

Rest Day...except I spent all day packing/carrying boxes and scrubbing walls as we are moving chocolate factory today. So my legs and arms are quite tired now.

Had a nice group with Felly, Tessa and some new guys. They were a bit too fast for me though, so I pushed too hard on the first 2 and suffered on the last 2. Last one was particularly hard but we did start in the worst place of the loop going straight into the hill then headwind for most of the rep.
