Orienteering 32:23 [4] 2.65 km (12:13 / km) +117m 10:01 / km
shoes: VJ Bolds - Yellow

SOW Long - Waikaia
Ran the first 4 controls, then walked back through 15-19. Struggled to get in the right mindspace as I knew I wasn't going to do the whole course so got lazy with the navigation and made 2 big mistakes...1 while running (#4), 1 walking (#16). Haven't run on 1:15000 very much at all in the last year so that was a bit of a challenge, kept stopping far too early. Absolutely loved the area though! Had 2 robins hop up right next to my feet whilst I was stopped at one point, with not another person in sight.

SOW Short - Twelve Mile Delta
A Chris Forne course so it was tough, but lots of fun! Going well at the beginning apart from running to a control in the clearing next to mine at 6. Then caught up to Greta, Lara and Jula on the flat and got a bit distracted by them at times so was a bit wobbly through the controls. Fitness definitely lacking as they would run away from me on any fast open bits, but I could usually catch up again once it got more technical and by taking better lines.

Note

Tunnel bridge and fossil lookout before picking up Dad at the airport. Then drove out to Brighton beach where we had lots of fun climbing in the rocks between each little section of beach. Then steep walk down to Tunnel Beach and exploring the Otago Museum.

Note

Walked to Jack's blowhole, Catlins river run then went to the Lost Gypsy Gallery which had all these cool gadgets that you wound the handle and different things would happen. Had a late lunch then drove up to Nugget Point where we saw baby seals playing about in the rock pools. Then waited for 2.5 hours for a Yellow Eyed Penguin to turn up!!

Running 39:30 [3] 5.16 km (7:39 / km) +70m 7:10 / km
shoes: Mizuno Enigma

Ran part of the Catlins River-Wisp track. Got dropped at Frank's Creek then ran back down to Tawanui. Amazing native bush, uneven single track and not a person in sight.

Note

Saw the fossilised forest at Curio Bay, then went across to Porpoise Bay and managed to luck out and see 5 dolphins playing about in the waves :) Then lots of small walks to Slope Point, Cathedral Cave, Macleans Falls and Purakaunui Falls, and finally an estuary walk from our campground in Pounawea.

Note

Spent the morning finding pretty rocks on Gemstone Beach, went bodysurfing at Colac Bay, then drove to Curio Bay. It poured with rain so we sat inside reading books instead of going to Slope Point.

Lovely run in Bluff on the Foveaux track. Probably the most southern place I'll ever run! :) Really cool tracks...started out in native bush, then around the rocky coastline and finished with a steep climb through stunted shrubland to the top of Bluff hill with a bonus spiral to the lookout for the gps too. Great views of Stewart Island.
