Some lovely open bits, mostly horrible bits. Very physical...spent most of the time walking, but hopefully in a race I'll be able to push through it a bit more. Feeling quite dizzy towards the end as it was over 30 degrees, so stopped at 11.

Tired, heavy legs to begin with but got into it after the first rep. There was another lady there doing exactly the same session/pace as me, but by the time I realised we were half a rep out of sync. Was nice to have someone in the distance to chase though.

Again slow on the last rep. Think I mentally slip and start thinking about how nice it will be when I'm done rather than pushing hard during the rep. I think the same thing is happening when I'm orienteering as I keep making mistakes right at the end of courses. Hopefully can solve this before next week!

Absolutely dead on the sprints, but it was into a fairly strong headwind.

Once again ruined an alright result with a mistake at the end. Didn't see that the alleyway was blocked leaving 16 then took the longer route round once I'd corrected (+30secs).

Aim for this race was to have full focus on the navigation and let the running happen naturally. Which worked for most of the course besides a 10sec loss on wrong route choice to 8. Then got to the knee-high grassy wasteland and proceeded to lose 40secs across 2 controls. Firstly to 17 when I changed my mind from taking the concrete path to going left on the small track for a bit then straight. But faffed about for ages trying to find the start of the path. Should've just committed and gone straight. Then to 19 I just looked up and ran towards the wrong group of trees and didn't navigate at all.

So disappointing result but some positives in the fact that I was similar time to most of the girls after 16 controls.

This was great. Had Maja starting 1min behind me so aim was to try and stay in front of her for as long as possible. I think the extra pressure really helped me to focus and push hard. Only a slight stumble leaving 11 as I hadn't planned ahead but made sure to stop and figure it out quickly, then ran hard once I knew where I was going. Maja only caught me just before the second to last control so well pleased with that.

I quite enjoy training by myself, but man it is so much easier with someone else!! Had Kirstin pushing me along tonight which was great. I'd lead for the first 700m, then she'd push past for the final 300m.
Got a bit excited on the first 2 due to the fact I had company, so was waiting for the inevitable crash, but it never happened. Even survived the final rep for the first time.

Cramond Parkrun

Little tester pre-WOC. Not really knowing what to expect but hoping for anything between 18.00 and 18.30 really. But this was just shite. Actually felt like I was running strongly so was very demoralised to look down and see that I'd only just gone under 19mins. Could have been even worse if the nice guy I was running with didn't keep yelling at me to hold onto him.
Could blame the wind on the way back, but it really wasn't that bad for Cramond. Ultimately just not as fit as I want to be. Which is very frustrating as I've been able to do so much more training/speedwork than previous years with my foot, but seem to be doing worse in running and sprint races.

"Flat" pentlands with Jonny...although this was quite a long hilly run for me! Suffering up the climb to the reservoir but managed to keep running the whole way. Then hit the wall just as we crossed the motorway near the end and shuffled my way to the shop.

Was nice to run in the pentlands again :)

Sprint training - Melrose

Plan for this session was to make sure I always had a plan for the leg ahead, rather than focusing on running fast like I have in the past few races. Also trying to have full focus throughout the course and not start drifting off into how good/bad I am running or how hard it feels.

Mostly fine apart from 5 when I unfolded the map to read ahead for 6, then lost where I was on the map combined with realising the control was actually on the other side of the wall to where I'd originally been running. Couldn't get into 6 as it was all fenced off but didn't make a difference to the next leg.

Fast downhill start for the first and third controls. Had trouble planning the leg to 4 as I couldn't read the map running down the stairs. Went right to 6 as Jonny had spent a long time climbing the bank going left and told me not to go there. Navigated well through the housing estate at the top of the hill. Then went down someone's driveway instead of the alleyway at 11.
Was quite surprised to realise I only had 2 controls left after this and it seemed to go by so quickly. So tried to put a bit of effort in to the finish. Legs absolutely done by this point!

Home the long way from work via Musselburgh, Dalkeith and Bonnyrigg. Then went exploring and found a cool valley between Polton and Loanhead. Got a bit lost trying to find the railway path, ending up on this very steep walking path, but made it out eventually.

Stunning day, super warm. Went on a cool path from Dalkeith to Eskbank that I haven't been on in a long time through some really nice open woodland. Great fun. :)

Had the track completely to myself which was very bizarre but awesome. Took a long time for me to figure out where everyone was...then realised it was a Wednesday!

Felt surprisingly good for most of the session, running a lot faster than I thought I'd be able to. Until the last one when I completely blew up...breathing was super wheezy and legs were wobbling. Took a solid 5mins to get my breathing/heart rate under control.

ASOM City Race -Ypres

Started off conservatively as I knew it was long and hot. And normally I start way too fast at normal sprint pace so really made an effort to pace myself. Fine for first 4 controls then started running to wrong side of the wall for 5, even though I'd read the description. Lost 45secs here. Again messed up at 10 with the exact same mistake. Panicked leaving 11 with all the market people everywhere and ended up running 2 sides of a triangle.
By this stage I was really struggling and let my mind take over. Never have enjoyed urbans and just got so grumpy with how boring the course was and how badly I was feeling physically. Lots of walking in/out of controls from 12-20 then Meg caught me (2mins) and put in a bit of an effort until the spectator run through. By this stage the heat had really got to me and stumbled round the last loop so slowly.

Finished 5mins behind the leader. So obviously not happy with that. But some positives to take as without my big time loss at 5, I wasn't too far off the pace for the first 15mins at least.
