2nd (Me, Rona, Rachel Brown)
Had been looking forward to this all week but on Wednesday I unfortunately developed a rather large boil in a bad place which made any kind of movement rather painful, let alone running. Didn't want to let down the team though so decided to run and hopefully suffer through the pain.
Started out steady and was just behind Grace as we entered the green. Wasn't sure of my exact location the whole way through the green but was sensible enough to follow the right trains. Same splits as Grace so we popped out into the white forest and no other girls were in sight. Probably pushed a bit too hard here as I got caught up racing the boys and wanted to make sure that nobody on the other gaffles were ahead.
Got a bit of a gap to 4 and settled into a more comfortable pace to 5. In the wrong reentrant at 5 so lost a bit of time there. This meant that at the turnaround at 6 Grace, Beth and Megan Keith (junior) were right behind.
Leading through till 8 but at this point I was really starting to struggle physically. Luckily the others weren't quite on top of the navigation so I was able to catch back up through 9 and 10. Grace went the wrong direction out of 10, then Beth out of 11 so was in the lead. Couldn't work out the contours at 13 and slowed right down but still went to the wrong place and lost maybe 30secs.
Adrenaline had finally run out at this point and started to realise how much pain I was in, making the last part of the course an absolute struggle. Was surprised to see Grace pop out ahead of me at 16 as I thought I was still leading. Changed over to Rona about 25secs down. Happy enough with that given my situation, did my job.
Rona pulled us up into a strong lead with 6mins down to the EUOC first team. Then Rachel (14 year old) ran very well to finish only 12secs behind EUOC. Give us a few more years and we could have a very strong team :)
