7am bus from Tartu to Riga...very grim! Then walked around the huge market and some of the allowed routes in Riga. Very tired!

Orienteering race 42:49 [4] 5.7 km (7:31 / km) +142m 6:41 / km
shoes: VJ Bolds - Yellow

WOC Relay - Vitipalu
22nd (although our time actually put us 20th, but we got placed after all the teams that weren't in the mass start)

Lizzie had breathing problems again on leg 1, then Immy had quite a few problems on 2nd leg, so I ended up starting in the mass start with Australia, Portugal, USA, Brazil, Japan, China, Hong Kong just after the winning teams were coming into the finish.

Had absolutely no pressure so just went out and enjoyed it. Was having a great time leading the mass start and navigating so much better and more confidently than yesterday. Came through the run-through with about 1min lead over Tash. Hit the wall pretty bad in the second loop and was crawling when Tash caught me up in the open felled area. Followed her for the last few controls in the forest but unfortunately couldn't get past her at the end, so I lost out to Tash for the 2nd time this week! But we managed to finish 1.5mins in front overall.

WOC Middle - Vitipalu
50th

Absolute disaster to number 2. Had looked at the track route but decided that I could confidently navigate to the large depression just before the control. But drifted right, hit another depression and proceeded to run around in circles for several minutes. Eventually managed to get out to the track to relocate (7mins lost). Took it very slowly through 3-5 to try and regain a bit of confidence. Then ran really well on the long leg to 6. Then proceeded to make 2 more mistakes on 7 and 8 when I didn't check my compass again and drifted too far left on both controls.

At this point I'd been caught 2mins by a Japanese girl and was really not having a great time at all. Went through the run-through and heard that Laura Joonas (EST) was not far behind so thought if I could try to stick with her to the finish I might be able to make up a few places. Took the track route to 11 as I'd had enough of getting lost in the forest. Laura caught me to 12, we caught a group of 3 and I actually started running really well from here as we raced against each other. Decided to make it my goal to finish 1st out of the group to salvage something from my terrible run and managed to gap them in the last small loop.

Jonny shadowed me around a short course. Was going well for the legs I had a decent plan for, not so good on the others. Struggling to identify whether features are hills or depressions.

WOC Sprint Relay - Viljandi
21st

Well after all the worry over the last few weeks about who was actually going to be in the team/what order to run, it was finally decided on Immy, Tim, Ross, Me.

I went out about 70secs down on Australia (Tash Key) and spent the whole time trying to catch her. Went right to 4 as Tash and Helena Jansson had both gone that way, but should've gone left. Got within 20secs by the arena run-through but really started to struggle physically in the last bit. And took a couple of different routes to Tash in the vague hope I might be able to catch her. But it wasn't to be unfortunately.

WOC Sprint Final - Tartu
37th

Legs were feeling very tired in the warm up and was already struggling on the way up the hill to 1. Went right to 1 which lost me about 20secs. Should've gone straight but thought it had more climb. Rest of the course was all incredibly easy so I lost time just from not being able to run fast up all the hills. Calves started to cramp badly going up the super steep bank to 10 and dropped quite a bit of time in the last loop.

WOC Sprint Qual - Tartu
13th

Bad route choices in the beginning to 4 and 7, then completely lost where I was after coming down a steep bank on the way to 8. Panicked and started running before I'd worked out where I was and took a huge zigzag round a building. Lost 30secs. Luckily the last part was more normal building sprint and I ran well to move from 17th to 13th and qualify for the final.
