Really happy with this. Was quite nervous beforehand because felt quite coldy late this week but sacked off uni on Friday and stayed inside all day (apart from a little shake out). Still felt a bit rough on Saturday but come this morning felt good to go.
Got there with plenty of time which was nice. Managed to yeet into the elite starting pen which was golden, meant we didn’t have to jump some barriers to get in. The start was really quite fast, had it in my head the whole time that is was too fast and kept trying to slow it down but always ended up speeding up again. No biggie. Settled in nicely after about 2k (splits are all mucked up because watch didn’t like the bends on a little loop). Felt hard but comfortable through 5k (not sure of the 5k split exactly but think it was around 15:47). Then found myself leading out a small pack of lads for the next couple of k. Starting hurting pretty big time at about 7k and was on my own that this point. By 8k felt like nothing was in the tank. The next 2k was proper proper grim but spanked it out fairly consistently. Little incline over a bridge with about 300m to go killed me off hard and then struggled to the finish.
Really pleased with the run, quite apprehensive beforehand as I didn’t really know what shape I was in. But it seems to be coming along nicely and looking forward to getting some more miles in and mainly, some long runs. Takes time to build up though and need to be sensible with my shin. Peace out
