Running 1:05:00 [1] 11.0 km (5:55 / km)

A gorgeous morning for a longer run, this was interesting physically.. I have had a bad cough for the past 3 weeks so had to stop and cough a few times and about 20 mins in my left knee/ IT band from sprint camp started acting up again and was quite tight, fitness was also clearly lacking as I had to walk some of the uphills but still really good to get out (finally). Had a bit of everything went from my place to Jericho beach, along the beach to spanish banks and took the trail up to spanish - salish - cleveland to 16th which was good to get through the woods again, and then ran to 12th and enjoyed the downhill on the cherry blossom lined streets back home! Stretched about 15 mins in (kind of forgot) and then afterwards.

Note

Also thought it was time for a life update, when I was struggling on the uphills and a bit mad at my fitness levels and general lack of quality training I stepped back to remember what my main goal was for this year. My decision to not go to JWOC this year was based on the fact that with 7 courses both terms and a number of team based projects I knew that training would be difficult and I wouldn't feel confident in competing at such a high level, the other factor was that I joined the Co-Op program and really wanted to get an engineering related job for the summer so I could start figuring out what I liked in the field and get some more direction for a career path... I was involved with a number of student teams and enjoyed talking to upper years to also help guide me, and good news I got a job! I have accepted a position with Ontario Power Generation at the Sir Adam Beck Hydroelectric plant in Niagara for the summer to do some hydrotechnical work on a large scale and dam safety stuff! It also felt good because I received an offer from City of Vancouver as well for a position that had over 60 applicants (including upper years). So with that said although my focus hasn't been orienteering this year I have met some of my personal goals and still have really enjoyed training when I can!

Part 2 of life update is that I will be going on exchange next year! I got accepted to the Coordinated International Experience with UBC's faculty of applied science and will be attending TUDelft in the Netherlands for the winter term next year. I am super excited and will get to do lots of travelling around Europe, also the term goes until July 7th I believe so depending on how early my exams end should hopefully be able to do some of the fun European O events!
