Sunday Mar 21 #

Note

Spent a couple of hours down in Corvallis field checking the new Soft Rock map. It really is gorgeous terrain, even if rather small. I wish I (a) was a more competent mapper; (b) had enough patience to become a more competent matter; and (c) had the time to properly devote to this project. However, it should be possible to at least make an adequate map for the GrizO event here on April 18.

Running 38:42 [2] 5.05 km (7:40 / km) +134m 6:46 / km

Easy jog with Jeremy and the dogs up Pattee Canyon. It was very icy, and Jeremy didn't have spikes, so it was a bit treacherous. Nice to catch up after their trip to Moab, though.

I took Persik for a run up the back of Mt. Sentinel. It was about 45F and sunny when we started, and about five minutes later we were in a snowstorm. That passed after a while, but it remained fairly chilly for the duration of the run. We stopped short of the summit, as the trail was getting pretty icy up there, and I didn't want to have to run that on the way down.

Running 24:42 [2] 3.91 km (6:19 / km)

Warm up jog down to the track, plus some drills and stretches.

Running 18:54 [5] 4.18 km (4:31 / km)
ahr:150 max:160

I decided it was time to try out speedwork again, so I went down to the Sentinel track for a cautious 2x2000m tempo run, aiming at the pace suggested by Jack Daniels for a 12:00 3km runner, which I suspect myself to be right now. This called for a 4:25/km pace, which is what I aimed for. Ended up a bit faster: (4:13, 4:16) and (4:08, 4:15). This felt comfortable and got a bit hard toward the end of the second 2000m. Gorgeous day outside. Sunny and warm, in the low 50s.

Running 16:51 [2] 2.74 km (6:10 / km) +84m 5:20 / km
ahr:144 max:156

Cool-down slog back up to the house.
