Running 25:00 [2]

Warmup before the sprint and then cooldown with Will.

Orienteering 16:17 [5] 2.9 km (5:37 / km)

France O Week!

It's been a long time since I've gotten to run a European multi-day event, and I've been looking forward to this for a long time. I signed up for M35, along with Ross, Neil, and Martin, making for some good competition in the house.

The sprint was at the old fortress of Mont Dauphin, designed bu Vauban in the 17th century. This was a spectacular area over looking some gorges and surrounded by mountains.

We dropped Inara off at event childcare and went off to our starts without needing split starts - a luxury. Also, several of us Americans commented on how strange it was to be at an event where we were not volunteering for something...

The race itself was good. There were a lot of tunnels, passageways, and bridges to navigate, but I avoided getting trapped. My speed was not great, but the clean orienteering was good enough for 2nd/33 in M35.

Running 31:15 [2]

Running with Ross! We arrived at our awesome airbnb in Vars, and Ross and went for a shake-out run with some strides. This is a ski resort, so everything was either straight up or straight down.

Rubbing to and from the sprint map

Orienteering 15:30 [3]

I ran an old sprint course on the Le Tonkin map in Lyon. The map mostly covers a big housing complex with multiple levels, lots of passages and dead ends, and some irregular shapes. It was really good training and also made it clear to me that I am totally out of practice with sprint racing. I got trapped twice and made one more mistake... Hopefully things will go better on Sunday.

Running 25:50 [2]

Another easy exploration run in Lyon, this time with just Jeremy. Lyon is a beautiful city. I'd love to come back here.

Running 31:28 [2]

A sightseeing run in Lyon in the morning with Alli and Jeremy. Lots of stops for pictures and views. It's a really beautiful city with some cool Roman amphitheatres and medieval cathedrals.
