A long run from the Crazy Canyon trailhead in Missoula. Zigzagged on the ski trails, then climbed up to the top of Mt.Sentinel. From there, down Hellgate Canyon trail all the way down to the Clark Fork river, along Kim Williams trail and to the 'M' (an actual giant 'M' sculpted into the mountainside). Up the very steep trail to the 'M' and then along the fire road all the way across the mountain. Finally, down to the houses and back to Alli's mom's house.

Longest run I've done in a long time. Accidentally stopped my watch, so the run is split into two separate entries.

A run with Alli on the ski trails from Pattee Canyon trailhead in Missoula. Steep! This would make some great orienteering terrain if we could find some less steep bits.

Running during the drive from Oregon to Missoula. Alli dropped me off at a trailhead next to the Lochsa river in Idaho and picked me up at the end of the trail. It was a bit of an adventure, as the trail was very overgrown with ferns and other plants, and featured a number of creek crossings that got fairly deep. Also, I was pretty nervous about meeting a bear and so was jittery the entire time. Some beautiful terrain and views along the trail, though! Very happy to see Alli at the end.

Orienteering 50:00 [3] 6.0 km (8:20 / km)
shoes: VJ Supra 2014-1

We were prepared. Maps were acquired. Courses from the 2005 US Champs were drawn. The location was found on google maps. We arrived at Dutchman Flats, and I was really excited to run on the best orienteering terrain in the US that I had never run on* in some beautiful summer weather.

At the start there was a steady ground cover of about 6 feet of snow. Doh! I still ended up running about half the red course, but the snow cover made the orienteering a bit tricky, to say the least, especially in the super-detailed lava rock area, where the rock and contour detail was concealed by the snow. It's some pretty special terrain. I'd love to come back and have another shot at it. Does anyone know what happened to the ORCA club that organized this event back in 2005?

* Any suggestions for the list of "Best US maps that Boris has never run on" are welcome!
